Thanks for going ahead anyway when you suggested posting in the talk page of Wikipedia's First and Most Important Policy and we all snorted. GhostInTheMachine (talk) 14:48, 17 May 2020 (UTC) |
Hi
Hi. Here is a humdinger of an argument about what notability means. Mccapra (talk) 05:00, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
- Also can I point you to this brilliant tool here which I found after many months of laboriously filling the cite book template by hand. If you dump a google book link in at the top, it automatically generates a citation in wiki text. You usually need to refresh your browser to get it to work. Mccapra (talk) 05:25, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hey - I'm really sorry, it took me ages to see this, and then I apparently only responded to you in my head. Many thanks for the useful links. All help gratefully received! -- BessieMaelstrom (talk) 11:28, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
Women in Red
Hi there, BessieMaelstrom, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to have someone with professional experience, keen to improve coverage of women in the theatre and the arts. I see you have not yet created any articles of your own but if you are inspired to do so, you might find it useful to look through our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:54, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hey Ipigott - thanks so much for the kind welcome. I have yet to create, but am about to inflate a badly written one. First I need to know how best to declare and handle COI, because my theatre world is a very small one. I have asked for guidance on the COI page and would welcome your advice too. In the world of contemporary theatre in my countries, and especially in more specific areas like spoken word poetry, musical theatre, and interactive theatre, I am likely to at least have friends of friends who connect me to the subject, or have encountered people at industry gatherings. I'm not sure how best to declare that kind of COI, or where, and when I should choose to make something be an AfC - particularly if I'm inflating a stub. -- BessieMaelstrom (talk) 11:04, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your quick response. As you become more experienced, there might be opportunities for you to write about people or organizations you know but I strongly suggest you start by covering those with whom you have no close contacts. Declaring COI interests draws strong attention and can often lead to major difficulties with new articles. Instead, I suggest you begin by covering some of the many notable women connected to the theatre who are included in relevant listings from our Redlist index. If you are fluent in Danish, you can perhaps also look at our redlist on Women from Denmark. Please let me know if you need further help.--Ipigott (talk) 11:25, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Gotchya. I'll have a browse around and get going elsewhere. I might move far away from things I'm familiar with, to start off with. Maybe that's an easier way to get fluent in neutrality. Thanks again for the help - I really appreciate it. -- BessieMaelstrom (talk) 12:14, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
