Bo-gyeom (보겸) (real name: Kim Bo-gyeom, born January 31, 1988) is a Korean YouTuber and BJ of afreecaTV. It is popular among some teens and 30s in South Korea. As of June 2020, the number of subscribers to the YouTube channel operated by Bo-gyeom is 4.01 million, and it is the number one in the list of subscribers when limited to the Korean game YouTuber channel.[1][2]

History

Birth

In January 31 1988, he was born Kim Bo-gyeom in Hwayang-myeon, Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do.

early 2010s

Bo-gyeom started his afreecaTV career in February 2012 while attending Gunsan University and received the best BJ ticket in May of the same year. Back then, he covered contents such as Dungeon & Fighter and MapleStory.

Between late 2013 and 2014

Bo-gyeom launched League of Legends content. Shotgun videos, also known as 14 Bo-gyeom legends, are mostly gifs made by rolling. Meanwhile, 18 hours of broadcasting a day made me very weak.

In August 2014

Bo-gyeom entered YouTube and uploaded several videos, many of which were more than an hour long.

the late 2010s

In the middle of 2016,the company started contents such as Bo-gyeom and Top Ten, daily life, and mukbang contents in earnest. At that time, he appeared in the documentary "Africa TV I Am BJ. At the end of 2016,Bo-gyeom started Overwatch content and has more than 100,000 YouTube subscribers.

2017

2017 was the year of life reversal for Bo-gyeom. In March of that year, Bo-gyeom was an ordinary YouTuber with 200,000 subscribers, but she worked hard on contents such as Clash Royale, daily life, and eating shows, and surpassed 1 million subscribers in December of that year. At this time, a large number of middle and high school subscribers were introduced.

In early 2018

The company mainly filmed Battleground contents and reached 2 million subscribers. The number of elementary school subscribers has increased a lot since then.

In January 2019

The company reached 3 million subscribers. I also met Pengtimo, a Chinese YouTuber. He mainly filmed daily and combined contents, and later released albums with Elin, a member of Crayon Pop, in May (to rank 81st on Melon Chart). Later in May, he moved to Dalseong-gun, Daegu, for health reasons.

On December 30, 2019

Bo-gyeom launched Clash of Clans content. He is known to have spent more than 10 million won on the game. In just three months, he set a new record for reaching the top-tier league, the Legend. He said on his broadcast, "I'm fighting with Supercells with my money," and "I can go to the top."

2020s

On February 8, 2020, Bo-gyeom posted a video of sharing masks free of charge in various parts of Jamsil-dong due to the spread of the coronavirus.[3]

On May 4, 2020, Bo-gyeom closed the number of subscribers to his YouTube channel and before it was closed to the public, he had 3.98 million subscribers. On May 6, 2020, Bo-gyeom achieved 4 million YouTube subscribers and changed the number of subscribers back to public.

Incident and controversy

Controversy over dating violence

A member of an African TV network in 2016 (Bogyeom's ex-girlfriend). The revelation of Lee's assault made headlines. Bo-gyeom admitted and apologized for most of the charges, and the user admitted that his words were exaggerated, and the case was settled through an agreement between the parties.

On May 20, 2018, Bo-gyeom posted an explanatory video on his YouTube account, saying, "There are people who distort Boyou as a disparaging term for women, but I've never used it like that," as controversy over dating violence and disparagement of women has erupted on social media over his apology for Highlight's Yoon Doo-joon and Niel's subscription of Teen Top.[15]

He said he will take legal action against members of Womad, a male-hating community site that he claims to be a disparaging expression for "Bobo," which means female genitals.[16]

Ship-to-Delivery Terrorism Victims Case

On March 26, 2019, a high school student sent 250 delivery packages containing garbage to Bogyeom. Bo-gyeom posted the incident on the video as he checked a package containing trash while carrying out a contents to open the delivery service. On April 17, 2019, Bo-gyeom actually filed a complaint after posting a video of him consulting a lawyer to sue the high school student. The high school student is known to have sent parcels over a long period of time for simple fun. Meanwhile, the student's parents filed a criminal complaint, and JTBC only released the student's story. Of course, Bo-gyeom did not respond to JTBC's coverage. Eventually, the student's parents' criminal charges were cleared.[17]
