One of the high-ranking officers of the Red Ribbon Army. Although he was very strong, he was very fey, and was thought to be a homosexual. Along with his effeminate behavior and mannerisms, he was extremely obsessed with his looks and was very strict and militant, ordering his men executed for crimes as trivial as nose picking, or inevitable, like missing a target twice with torpedoes. He had a special psychic technique where he could temporarily paralyze people so they couldn't move (called Choryonku), which Blue used to his advantage to win the fight. The origins of his psychic powers are never discussed, but he is the only officer we know the age of (28 when tongue-stabbed by Mercenary Tao Pai Pai). It is possible that General Blue was based on Hitler's ideal men and belief that blond-haired, blue-eyed people are superior to other races as seen in his feaats of superhuman strength and psychic abilities, even his sexuality (although never explicitly revealed) could be inspired by the theories of Hitler's sexuality. Blue was also the longest-living officer in the series with the possible exception of Red and Black, and he had an entire saga focused around him. Blue is very persistent and loyal to the Red Ribbon empire, and he tracked Goku through more then seven episodes of obstacles. Eventually he and Goku ended up in Penguin Village, in a cross-over episode combining Dragonball and Akira Toriyama's Dr. Slump. Blue ended up being head butted in the pelvis by Arale and sent crashing into Egypt. When he returned to the HQ (through the use of a camel and an umbrella), Commander Red congratulated him on the finding of the Dragon Radar but noted that his main mission was to collect the Dragonballs, and that people were executed for failure. Blue became terrified until Red said that since Blue had served the army well in the past (which is contradictory because earlier Assistant Black said that Blue had a dismal record, however he may have pretending to redeem Blue for this reason), and that if he fought Mercenary Tao and won he would be able to redeem himself. In the Dragonball series, Mercenary Tao killed Blue by sticking his tongue on a pressure point on Blue's head. In the 10th Anniversary movie, Blue's death was execution by some low-level Privates. They dragged him in a room and shot him to death. Not even the fact that Blue had just given Red five of the seven Dragonballs was enough to make up for the fact that he missed one lying buried in sand.

In the manga, however, while there wasn't much of an addition to his role in the anime, Blue's personality was much different. In the anime he was portrayed as being a flaming homosexual comic relief character, with lines such as "Every time I'm about to kill scum such as yourself...each and every strand of my beautiful hair...and my white, glowing skin tremble with pleasure!" and "How dare you discolor my pink cheeks!", whereas in the manga he was far more serious, deceitful, clever, and quite a bit less cocky, with lines such as "Alright men, load up your guns. We're going to kill those three little kids." and "You guys took such good care of me...and gave me your treasures...so I'll give you something nice out of gratitude...a happy little time-bomb! I've set it for five minutes. Enjoy your five minutes of sheer terror! I'll be seeing you. I had fun." However it was still somewhat implied that Blue was homosexual, as he found Bulma to be disgusting when she attempted to flirt and distract him by wriggling her butt at him.

Template:Cleanup fiction-as-fact The Red Ribbon Army is a fictional paramilitary organization which first appeared in the Dragon Ball manga and Dragon Ball anime, as well as being mentioned in Dragon Ball Z, and made a final appearance in Dragon Ball GT. Led by a diminutive Commander Red, the goal of the Red Ribbon Army was to use any means necessary to obtain the Dragonballs and wish for world takeover; yet Commander Red secretly planned his wish for him to be a taller person. Since he was a very short person, he despised being around those who were taller than him.

When Adjutant Black found out about Red's plan, he killed the Commander and took control of the Red Ribbon Army, re-naming it the Black Ribbon Army. The entire army was defeated when a young boy named Son Goku sought to stop the army's evil ways by infiltrating the fortress, killing Black in the midst.

On a funny note, every single officer in the Red Ribbon Army are intentionally named after a certain color. The colors of Red, Black, White, Blue, Green, Purple, Violet, Yellow, and Silver were the main ones used.

Notable people in the Red Ribbon Army

Commander Red

File:CommanderRedandAdjutantBlack.jpg
Commander Red shares a rare moment of satisfaction.

Commander Red — the lead commander-in-chief of the most feared, and ruthless militaristic crime organization. When discovering that his enemy, Son Goku, had a much more sophisticated and superior "Dragon Radar", he was angered at the fact that he invested so much in his radar and took many wary chances, only to have been contested by a mere child.

Red hires a famed contract killer named Tao Pai Pai to assassinate Goku and return with his four Dragonballs that General Blue was unsuccessful at retrieving, only to have Tao fail as well.

After Tao Pai Pai's defeat, Goku headed straight for the Red Ribbon Army HQ, attacking in its very strongfold to come for the Dragon Balls. When it became clear that Goku has virtually defeated his army, with many escaping from the base, and coming for him, he took the Dragon Balls and ordered Assistant Black to fight him and went into a secret compartment. As they were fighting, Red used one last trick and activated the ceiling to be flattened, in a desperate attempt to kill Goku, believing him and Black to be dead. Black was very lucky as he was knocked outside the window by Goku when the ceiling came down. As Red returned to the room, he gloats at his victory and reveals his wish to become tall. Assistant Black overhears this and pleads that the Red Ribbon Army did so much, and risked a lot for his ambition, instead of world conquer, therefore is wasn't worth the risk and could lead to their ultimate defeat. When Red doesn't listen, he is then shot on the head and killled by Black who then renames it the Black Ribbon Army. He heavily underestimated Goku's strength as he simply raises the ceiling and reaches Black. Also note that Goku never got to meet the mastermind face to face.

Agent Black

File:AdjutantBlack.jpg
Black prepares to take on Son Goku.

Agent Black — isn't given much of a role in the Dragon Ball series. Soft-spoken and quick-witted, Black carries out Commander Red's orders and informs Red of the current situations with the remaining Red Ribbon officers.

When Goku is storming the headquarters, Black repeatedly attempts to persuade Commander Red to evacuate the fortress to a much safer and secure location, but Red refuses. Black actually ends up having to fight Goku by himself, but he doesn't land any hits, but takes some himself. Goku actually ends up unwittingly saving Black's life, as the final punch Goku delivered made Black crash through a window. When a trap door ceiling fell down on Goku, Black survived because he was hanging onto the windowsill. Overhearing Red's joyful speech about becoming a taller person, Black was appalled, saying that his mad ambition has cost the Army dearly as shown in Goku's invasion, and may eventually lead to it's defeat. Red replies it doesn't matter how many soldiers he risks as long as he reaches his goal, and makes it clear that he is just a lackie, and is as the rest of the Red Ribbon Army, expendable. Angered, Black then shot Red in the head with his pistol, killing him instantly. Goku survives the falling ceiling, and was offered a position in Black's new army - the Black Ribbon Army. Goku refuses. They battle again, but Goku is still too powerful for him. Black then got into a super-powered robotic suit called "Battle Jacket" and the tables have turned since he is no match for him in the suit. The fight continues outside, and Black in the suit, throws Goku onto the ground. He attempts to finish himm off with a blast, but the boy quickly recovers and proves too nimble and even has him attack himself. Black then snaps and fires a rocket to destroy Goku, threatening even his soldiers and staff, but Goku kicks the rocket away. After realising the boy is too powerful, Black tries to escape from Goku but the young warrior sufficed and headbutted straight through the Battle Jacket, which exploded, with Black trapped in it.

Agent Black has a brief appearance in Dragon Ball GT, after he and several other Red Ribbon Army members are killed by Pan, he is seen speaking to General Blue in the Otherworld about how pathetic it is that he was killed again so quickly. In the Dragon Ball film The Path to Power, Black has a similar role, and he is changed to resembling a Hispanic.

General Blue

General Blue

General Blue himself was of German descent, as referenced in the manga when he speaks the line "auf wieder sehen," which means "good bye." It is possible that General Blue was based on Hitler's ideal men and belief that blond-haired, blue-eyed people are superior to other races as seen in his feaats of superhuman strength and psychic abilities, even his sexuality (although never explicitly revealed) could be inspired by the theories of Hitler's sexuality.

However it was still somewhat implied that Blue was homosexual, as he found Bulma to be disgusting when she attempted to flirt and distract him by wriggling her butt at him.

General White

File:GeneralWhite.jpg
General White

General White is the questionably sane, often over-reactive Russian commander of Muscle Tower, the Red Ribbon Army's northern fortress. The oldest of the known officers, White, while not a gifted strategist, is observant and draws conclusions with surprising speed, and is the only officer to have ever found out Goku's primary weakness; his tail. Trapped at the top of the six-level tower through status, White spends his time either smoking a pipe, taking sips from his flask, yelling, or bursting out in laughter for no apparent reason. While he is easily irritated and slightly impatient, White is surprisingly complementary, congratulating Goku when he reached the sixth floor and praising Ninja Murasaki for a job well done when he supposedly killed Goku. As Goku and Android 8 reach the sixth and final level of the tower, which is his level, Goku and General White fight, but it is clear that Goku is much stronger. He then threatens to blow up Android 8 if he doesn't comply, and shoots the boy with a handgun. In retaliation, Andoid 8 finally punches General White out of Muscle Tower, flying into the mountains, never to be seen or heard of again.

General Copper

Although we don't see him in the manga or the anime, he is mentioned in both. Copper controls Captain Yellow, Colonel Violet, and Colonel Silver, and it has been suggested that he survived the decimation of the Red Ribbon Army's HQ as, almost immediately before that happened, Red told Black to give the Dragon Radar to Copper and for him to find the Dragonball known to exist somewhere in his base's vicinity.

Captain Yellow

File:YellowTaisa.jpg
Yellow and one of his soldiers.

We see him briefly in the manga and anime, but he goes around trying to find the Dragonballs for General Copper. Goku punches him out of a plane and we never see him again, leading the viewers to believe that he was impaled on a tree. Yellow takes on the form of a humanoid tiger, but even so he retains none of the attributes one would normally associate with aggressive, powerful big cats. For starters, Yellow hates the jungle. Like Colonel Silver's Japanese counterpart, Yellow becomes flustered when talking to superiors, to the point where it's almost as if Yellow actually fears them. He also, unlike most of the officers, has a sense of humor, but he also feels himself superior to Bora, a native from the land of Korin. Strangely, despite having a short temper, Yellow is also persistent in getting people to cooperate with him, and he actually seems to care about his troops, which is something rarely exhibited in the Red Ribbon Army.

Colonel Violet

File:ColonelViolet2.jpg
Violet

Seen very briefly in the manga, Violet is only seen for two panels. She comments on the Dragon Radar's accuracy and gives a Dragonball to Commander Red. The anime increase her role in the series when Goku infiltrates the Red Ribbon Army HQ, she is seen stealing most of the money and gold on camera and escapes the place in a private helicopter. Her character is also extended a bit, giving her a couple personality attributes such as being kind and caring towards animals, being very much aware of men's degrading, as well as her sexist attitude towards females. Violet is seemingly sarcastic about and unaffected by death, as portrayed in a filler episode, she knocked a couple of her soldiers in the water as bait for an alligator that was harassing them and when her pilot was killed by an arrow from the advancing tribe of aggressive natives. She appears in three episodes (the last 3 of the Commander Red Saga) and is the only high-ranking female officer (the only female in general?) in the entire Red Ribbon Army, which is contradictory to what General Blue said in the manga, when he stated the women were not allowed to join. Colonel Violet also makes an appearance in The Path to Power, the 10th anniversary special, for a mere five seconds, flying an orange jet. Like Captain Yellow, Violet's FUNimation voice actor is not revealed.

Colonel Silver

File:ColonelSilver2.jpg
Silver

Silver is the first of the high-ranking Red Ribbon Army officers Goku fights, and thus is overwhelmed and unprepared. In the manga Silver had a much shorter role, appearing for a mere 14 pages total, but among Red Ribbon fans he is one of the most popular officers. He is shown to be a talented, powerful fighter with a love of weapons, and excellent in marksmanship as well. As evident in both the anime and the manga on multiple occasions, unlike most officers, he doesn't immediately turn to violence and threats in order to get information, but rather simply asks a couple questions and only resorts to physical means if he's not getting the requested answers. Silver is also rather fast, shocking even Goku when he runs past and swipes the bundle of cloth containing the Dragonballs and Dragon Radar from Goku's hands.

In the anime the RRA was introduced a bit earlier than in the manga, and there were several filler episodes involving Emperor Pilaf and Silver before the next chapter of manga was released and the animators were able to focus on the continuation of events.

The anime, much like they did with Colonel Violet, gave Silver a lot more characterization. One thing to note about this character is the strange and often dumbfounding fact that his personality warps with each dub, despite no one making any alterations to the animation whatsoever. In Japanese, Silver is portrayed as being quiet and serious, in the Funimation English dub, he changes to being short-tempered, aggressive, and courteous to superiors and occasionally complimentary towards random citizens. In the French dub he is assertive, in the Castilian dub he is irritable and foul-tempered, whereas, in a contradiction to all, Portuguese Colonel Silver is incapable of becoming angry, and is understanding and patient. That's how flexible his character is, or rather was. In the anime his fate isn't confirmed, but it is assumed that he is disengaged from the Red Ribbon Army for failure, and if that turns out to be true, he is the only officer who has done so and lived.

Lieutenant Green

Lieutenant Green is a low-ranking officer in the Red Ribbon Army. He appears in the early episodes of the General Blue Saga, being assigned to help General Blue with his mission. He is obese, which General Blue does not approve of. He carries a whip, and is very strict. He is a smooth-going guy, which was why he was the first in The Blue Regiment to be defeated.

When Blue split up his unit into Company A and Company B, Lieutenant Green was assigned the command of Company B. He and the rest of Company B flew across the bay until they reached Kame House. Lieutenant Green's mission was to capture the old hermit that lived there and to get one of his Dragon Ball Radars because he invented them (or so they thought). Green and his men surrounded Roshi Island, and the lieutenant had a long convincing talk with Roshi. However, Green couldn't get anything useful out of Roshi, and was about to do it the hard way. Green cranked up his whip for battle, not knowing that Roshi was a proffessional martial artist. Green was defeated in one punch to stomach. His regiment soon followed. Alas, that was the last sign of Lieutenant Green.

In the FUNimation dub, he was known as Lieutenant Captain Dark.

Android 8

One of the first androids seen in the series, he is ordered to eliminate Goku under Sergeant Purple's orders, but refuses. Purple threatens to make him self-destruct if he doesn't comply, but Android 8 said he would rather die than fight. Goku couldn't bear to see this so, he knocked out Purple. Android 8 was so content with this that he gave Goku the Dragon Ball he stole. They then went up to Muscle Tower together, fighting monster Buyon and General White. He defeats White by punching him straight out the tower's wall and out into the snow. Android 8 went to go live with the mayor, and, is seen briefly again at the end of the Kid Buu Saga, giving some of his power to build the ultimate Spirit Bomb.

Monster Buyon

File:FunnyBuyon.jpg
Buyon

Buyon is the hidden, blubbery monster of Muscle Tower. In the manga he was called The Jiggler. Buyon resides on the fifth floor of the tower, which is only accessible by falling through the trap door on sixth level, where General White resides with the imprisoned major of the nearby Jingle Village. At first, Buyon posed a seemingly undefeatable threat to Goku and Android #8 (though rightfully noted as a cyborg, Android is the term the Funimation dub used to generalize all the robots with numbers for names), as everything Goku threw at him, such as a Kamehameha in the stomach or a kick in the face, simply bounced back. Judging by all of the cow skeletons on the floor, Buyon is a creature of insatiable appetite, and will do just about anything to get some food. Through a long, tiring process - in which both Goku and #8 were almost devoured - Goku eventually discovers Buyon's weakness; the cold. Knocking a small hole in the wall, Buyon froze. Goku simply walked up to the frozen monster and punched him once, which made him crumble apart as if he were made of dried clay. After that, it was the simple matter of using the Power Pole to bash through the ceiling to confront the leader of Muscle Tower.

Sergeant Purple

File:MasterSergeantMajorMurasakiPurple.jpg
Purple taunts Goku from across a pond filled with piranha.

Even though he is smart, Sergeant Purple (a.k.a. Ninja Murasaki) loses to Goku after a long, drawn out , somewhat farcical fight. He uses several ninja tricks to which counters in his own kooky way. Even when he split into 5 Murasakis (In the anime, the Murasakis are just 5 identical brothers with Sergeant Purple as the oldest), Goku was still able to defeat him. After the fight he tries to unleash Android 8 upon Goku, or he would destroy Android 8. Android 8 refuses, and Goku knocks out Purple before he could do anything. Murasaki eventually goes after Dr. Flappe and Android #8, but met his end when Goku unintentionally tossed #8's bomb onto Murasaki's cheek (in the anime only).

Tao Pai Pai

Tao Pai Pai (a.k.a. Mercenary Tao) is a deadly, ruthless assassin, who lives for money. His name roughly translates into 'Peach White White'. Tao is the younger brother of the Crane Hermit, with whom he shares the signature Dodonpa attack. He is hired by Commander Red to eliminate Goku. The first time they fight Goku is defeated. But after Korin's training, Goku mops the floor with Tao. Realizing he is defeated Tao surrenders and when he sees Goku let down his guard he tosses a grenade at Goku. Goku then quickly kicks the grenade back at him and it blows up Tao instead. He returns at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai as part cyborg, but is beaten again by Tenshinhan. He returns in the Cell Games Saga. He is hired by a rich coward who is forcing people to build a protective dome against Cell. Gohan shows up to put a stop to this, yet when Tao realizes who Gohan's father is, he runs off. Tao Pai Pai can't fly, but he does has a unique method of travel (or escape if he senses defeat like with Gohan). Tao tears down a giant tree, throws it a far distance into the sky, and rides it off into the horizon. Although we never get to see the tree land, this is the last we see of him after the series.

NOTE: Tao Pai Pai is not part of the Red Ribbon Army, although he was a hired assassin for them. Although Tao got paid and did his job, Goku did destroy him. When Tao realizes his defeat is at hand, he tricks Son Goku by apologizing for his evil ways and saying he'll surrender. Goku relaxes his guard, and this gives Tao enough time to toss a grenade, jump away and yell 'Die!' Goku kicks the grenade back at Tao just in time for it to explode. Despite Tao's skills, when faced with someone stronger, we see how quickly he turns to dirty cheap tactics. While this adds to humor of the show and manga, it proves that he's a smart serious villain who can survive. The words "Kill You!" are seen on the back of his robe, which he cherishes greatly.

Sergeant Metallic

File:SergeantMetallic.jpg
Major Metallic

Of all of Muscle Tower, Goku's second challenge - to get past Sergeant Metallic (a.k.a. Major Metallitron) - was by far the most difficult task. Since Metallic was a robot, he was very hard, and in all truth the only reason Goku won was because the major's batteries ran out of power. Metallic is yet another Terminator parody. At one point in the anime, Goku accidentally blows off his head using a Kamehameha, but even that doesn't stop Metallic from continuing the fight. Even without a head and eventually losing both wrists, he tried to repeatedly stomp Goku flat. It was the first time in the series someone was actually able to take a couple hits from the Saiyan warrior and survive. Metallic appeared for a couple seconds in Dragonball GT, firing his fist off and causing major damage to a building.

In Path to Power, Dragonball's 10th anniversary special, Metallic appears again, redesigned as an African American, but is defeated very quickly.

Dr. Frappe

The creator of Android 8. In the anime, Toei Animation added this doctor into the story, just to have another hostage for Purple. But, you have to remember, Dr. Gero was years off before the Cell saga. Possibly, Dr. Frappe and Dr. Gero were partners and Dr. Frappe only built Android #8 from Dr. Gero's blueprints.

Dr. Gero

The original creator of every android and every cyborg, Dr. Gero is angry at Goku for decimating the Red Ribbon Army, of which Gero was a part. He devoted his life to get back at Goku, to the point where he, in the present timeline, gave himself a robot body to avoid his progress being halted due to death of old age. He is never seen or even mention until Dragon Ball Z. We see him as Android 20 in the Android Saga. There was once a theory that Gero was actually General White, but it was proven to be false.

Hasky

A filler character who is a master thief who is occasionally employed by the Red Ribbon Army. She has made a career out of doing the impossible. After she accepts a job, her abilities are such that not even the tightest security can stop her from making off with her prize. Once more, she has accepted a lucrative, lofty assignment from Commander Red: steal the Dragon Balls and get rid of Goku. She could be an identical rival of Lunch (similar to Ryoko and Nagi from Tenchi Universe).

The Androids

Android 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 (who is technically a cyborg, as is #18, #8 and #20), 18, 19, 20, 21, Hell Fighter 17, Super 13, and Super 17: All androids and cyborgs are created by Dr. Gero, who later on becomes one himself (Android #20). Though only Android #8 is truly a member of the original Red Ribbon Army, all androids share the same objective: the destruction of Goku. Ironically, the exception is Android #8, who's programming was flawed and didn't like to fight, who becomes friends with Goku. Androids #16, #17, and #18 also turn 'good' in Dragon Ball Z.

Androids 1-7, 9, and 10-12 were never seen in the Manga or Anime, nor were they even mentioned (save for a brief mention on one of the Manga's title pages). Most likely, they were failed experiments, as implied when, in the Android saga, Dr. Gero, when asked by trunks about his other 16 androids replies "They were all failures, a mistake I regret".
