:::@{{u|ChuksJD2}} & {{u|ChuksJD}}, you have been here for three months with your main account & barely 14 days with your alternate account & you are attempting to educate an established editor who has been here for five years? Orphan tag
Hi. Thanks for your work on NPP. Wikipedia can sometimes take half an hour to register links in "What links here" and also the orphan flag on the New Pages Feed. It's usually best to leave it half an hour before tagging to ensure the system has caught up. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 21:14, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for the note. JK (talk) 21:15, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
Categories - how to find appropriate ones?
Please can you help me with finding additional or more specific for the article Herbert Gladstone McDavid (and Tracey Gloster where Kj cheetham made the same comment). What do you have in mind? You musst have thought of something when you added the tag?? I don't understand how many categories are needed, or how to find suitable specific categories for some articles. McDavid is most notable for being a senior manager, chairman in the shipping industry, and for his wartime activities. The category Marine occupations does not have this type of occupation. There is a category Ship management - would that be suitable for a person (and why isn't it listed as a marine occupation?). For Gloster, she is most notable as a biochemist, and more specifically a carbohydrate biochemist. I have put her into categories British biochemists and as well as British biophysicists and British chemists because of the technologies she uses. What would be more specific? --MerielGJones (talk) 21:29, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for asking. This might help you. JK (talk) 21:32, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Sometimes I find I end up having to make a new category when no others seem suitable, but that's quite rare for articles I personally tend to look at. I've removed the tag from Tracey Gloster as there's a good few now - I added an extra "women" category too. The other type of category I sometimes add is "20th century (something)", or whatever century is appropriate. -Kj cheetham (talk) 21:55, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Kj cheetham for comment on categories. I also do not want to create new ones. Jikaoli Kol, I have read the page WP:CATNAME and the more specific one WP:Categorization_of_people, which led me to Category:People_by_occupation. I have found Category: Businesspeople awarded knighthoods, which is vaguely relevant. However, I cannot see other suitable occupation categories for McDavid listed there to do with the maritime/shipping industry which would be much more specific. What did you have in mind when you said the article needed more specific categories? I have been using HotCat, which is great if you can think of a suitable start for a category, but is otherwise very hit-or-miss.--MerielGJones (talk) 22:08, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Was the category "British businesspeople in shipping" the sort of thing you had in mind, Jikaoli Kol? The route to locate this is not obvious.--MerielGJones (talk) 22:21, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Notability
Instead of throwing notability tags around right, left and centre, you should take the articles in question to AFD. I suggest you read the usage instructions at {{Template:Notability}}: "Do not use this tag merely because the page requires significant work. Notability requires only that appropriate sources have been published about the subject. It does not require that any editor has already named these sources, followed the neutral, encyclopedic style, or otherwise written a good article". No Great Shaker (talk) 23:19, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Furthermore, before resorting to wanton draftification of articles, open a discussion with your concerns to find out what the author intends and seek WP:CONSENSUS. No Great Shaker (talk) 23:15, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
- @No Great Shaker: Please have a look at WP:DRAFTIFY. Draftification doesn't need a consensus. WP:CONSENSUS is not required for draftifying a newly created article. And I wished you could have opened a discussion to reach consensus before reverting my edits.
- {{Template:Notability}} states Add this template to the top of any page whose article subject is, in your judgment, reasonably likely to be non-notable (not the sort of subject that Wikipedia ought to have an article about). When an article is certainly, hopelessly non-notable, then you should nominate it for proposed deletion or take it to Articles for deletion instead. so I use it for pages where the subject seems to fail the notability guidelines and thus leave it for the next reviewer to make a judgement. AFD might be a good option but not all pages require the community's time for extensive discussion. JK (talk) 05:29, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Notability
Instead of adding the {{notability}} tag, I guess you should make researches before placing them on EVERY articles you see. You can ask David for help. He's a good teacher. Thank you. ChuksJD2 (talk) 21:13, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
- If @ChuksJD: is your account then you need to disclose it as per WP:SOCKLEGIT. JK (talk) 21:21, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, it is my account. It will be autoconfirmed in the next three days. I'll make it official then. And also, don't forget to heed to my advice. Throwing tags everywhere isn't cool at all. ChuksJD2 (talk) 21:26, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
