Hey John, can you review https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arya_Rajendran [[User:Shahoodu|Shahoodu]] ([[User talk:Shahoodu|talk]]) 18:36, 25 December 2020 (UTC)

Revision as of 18:36, 25 December 2020

Hi John, I wondered if you could review this article which has been nominated (again) for Good Article. It was already nominated two months ago, but a copyvio problem was detected. I believe I solved it now. Thanks in advance. :-) Taurus Littrow (talk) 15:28, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Taurus Littrow. The copyvio problems look as if they have been resolved. I haven't previously been involved in GA reviews, but from a quick look the article is certainly a strong candidate. The only thing I can see is that a lot of referencing is from Stephanides' books. Normally references should be from independent sources. If you could find additional references to back up these up it might pre-empt any objections to gaining GA status. I'm happy to do a formal review, but that might be better done after you have looked at the references. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 15:52, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks much, I'll try to fix it. I wonder if the very first reference ("Theodore Stephanides: A Brief Biography"), which is used very often throughout the article, can be considered Stephanides' book as such. It was published 30 years after his death, and he was obviously not involved in writing that preface. Same thing with references 17 and 22. What do you think? Taurus Littrow (talk) 16:05, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
A preface by another author is fine. Others from the body of the books would be helped by another reference. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 16:19, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It must be OK now, take another look please. I had to remove some text (e.g., that on Stephanides' translation of Lili Marlene) which could not be referenced from other sources. Thanks. Taurus Littrow (talk) 17:32, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The references look fine now. I've had a more thorough look at the article now. There aren't any major issues. The first of the Good Article Criteria is "well written". Generally it is, but you might want to look at the starting of paragraphs. In the 1920s and 1930s sections there are several consecutive paragraphs starting "In <date>" and in "Postwar period: moving to London" several start with "Stephanides". This might benefit from a little rewording, although neither start is wrong, it's better not to have consecutive paragraphs with the same start. For example, changing "In the 1920s, Stephanides began his work as a translator of Greek poetry into English" to "Stephanides began his work as a translator of Greek poetry into English in the 1920s" would make it different to the paragraphs before and after. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 20:52, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Very good, I rewrote (and expanded) some text. Let me know if there are other issues with it. Thanks. P.S. The article was about twice as big as it is now, and much more "entertaining", but I had to remove and rewrite a lot of text due to copyright violations, so the article looks a bit dry now. Taurus Littrow (talk) 22:25, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Taurus Littrow. That looks a lot better now. I'll do a formal review in the next few days. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 16:28, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot. Taurus Littrow (talk) 16:40, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I expanded the article a bit, as you can see. Taurus Littrow (talk) 10:05, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hi!! Sir, I just have a question, is List_of_P-Pop_Artist allowed? If I'm not mistaken it's just the same as 2020 in Philippine music or it should be renamed to "List of Philippine idol groups"? This article was created by Philippinesfan. — ArriehM 💬 03:57, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ArriehM, it didn't have enough entries to warrant its own article so I've redirected it to List of Philippine-based music groups. Regards --John B123 (talk) 16:56, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much, sir! ArriehM (talk) 23:29, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Still waiting for your formal review. Thanks. Taurus Littrow (talk) 10:57, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Taurus Littrow, apologies, I've had one of those weeks. I've started the review at Talk:Theodore Stephanides/GA2. Regards --John B123 (talk) 18:19, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks much! I updated some references, have a look please. Taurus Littrow (talk) 19:58, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That looks fine. I'm happy to pass the review, but as this is my first GA review I need to get a more experienced GA to cast their eye over it. I've made the request so hopefully it shouldn't take long. Regards --John B123 (talk) 20:18, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

An article that was created 35 seconds before you proposed deletion can hardly be described as "abandoned". Please give people who are trying to build this encyclopedia a bit of time to do so. Phil Bridger (talk) 21:21, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Phil Bridger: According to the page history it was created on 28 November [1] and not edited until my tagging for PROD on 20 December [2]. By my reckoning that's far more than 35 seconds. --John B123 (talk) 21:29, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, sorry. I was put off by the coincidence in the time, but didn't notice the month and day. Even so, I don't get why anyone would think such a list was an uncontroversial deletion candidate. Phil Bridger (talk) 21:36, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Phil Bridger: A list that should contain 650+ entries but only has one is hardly beneficial to the encyclopaedia. Nearly a month after creation there have been no further edits to try and improve the article. How would you suggest dealing with it? NPPs get grief for sending articles to draft, there's no suitable speedy criteria and a WP:BEFORE search would probably show enough subject notability to preclude an AfD. --John B123 (talk) 21:59, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Just do nothing and allow people to add entries, or even, horror of horrors, improve the list yourself. That's the whole idea of a wiki. And if an article subject is too notable to send to AfD then it is certainly not a candidate for PROD. Phil Bridger (talk) 07:25, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello john B123 Sir, Hi! Kindly assess the subject, and if you find this okay, then kindly move to the main space and do a review. I made a page earlier with the different name piecegoods, and it was reviewed but later redirected to textile. Therefore I am following this route. Thanks and Best regardsRAJIVVASUDEV (talk) 16:25, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RAJIVVASUDEV, all sorted. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 16:37, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this page was created about a golf club that co-hosts the highest level of Golf - Augusta National Women's Amateur a.k.a Women's Masters. Women were not allowed to play in the Augusta Nationals Golf Tournament till 2018 and this is historic that the first and inaugural tournament took place in Champions Retreat Golf Club. Also, the Golf club is designed by the three legends of Golf known as the Big Three. I am sure that the club of significance in Golf History

@Abdura99: The problem was the page was written in a promotional manner not in an encyclopaedic way. (Courtesy ping to Espresso Addict as you have left a similar message on their talk page). Regards. --John B123 (talk) 17:27, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove the deletion notice: the 1911 Britannica is in the public domain and the text is properly attributed. The page itself is a partial fork of *Bestia (family)* which has existed for 15 years. Avilich (talk) 21:56, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi sir! I just want to ask if this draft (which I expanded) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:1st.One is ready for mainspace? Are references enough? I'm not quite sure if this draft is ready for mainspace so I did not submit it yet. Thanks! ArriehM (talk) 07:40, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ArriehM, that's certainly a great improvement to the draft, however it still needs more references. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 07:51, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok sir thank you for the quick response! You're awesome sir! ArriehM (talk) 07:54, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, last favor, how about this one https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ericka_%E2%80%9CMiss_Everything%E2%80%9D_Camata I expanded it too. Is this ready for mainspace? ArriehM (talk) 08:11, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I think it needs some more references from more mainstream sources to establish notability. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 08:20, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok sir, thank you so much! You're amazing sir! Keep up the good work and thank you for the quick responses. ArriehM (talk) 08:22, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ellery Balcombe

Hi there,

With the Ellery Balcombe article you just reviewed and suggested for deletion, what's stopping it from being notable? No worries if it is deleted of course, just wanted to find out what the specific policy is for this.

Many thanks. ErraticDrumlin (talk) 20:28, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ErraticDrumlin. The specific notability guidelines for footballers is WP:NFOOTBALL. In short, they need to have played for a "fully professional" league as listed at WP:FPL. Unfortunately, Boreham Wood F.C. and Viborg FF don't qualify. They can also meet the requirements by playing for the national team at senior level, but not as an U20. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 20:49, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I see, that makes sense. Thank you. ErraticDrumlin (talk) 20:51, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Topological Hochschild Homology

Can you add the following categories

Thanks, Wundzer (talk) 21:34, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wundzer, I've added Category:Homological algebra and Category:Algebraic topology but Category:Homotopical algebra doesn't exist. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 21:45, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Wundzer (talk) 21:49, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ravi Krishnan

Hi there, I could not see the notice on the page but was hoping you could tell me why it was inappropriate. Ravi Krishnan has worked in Indian sport for nearly 30 years, and should be recognised as one of the bigger names in the industry. See Peter Hutton (head of sports at Facebook) and Manoj Badale, both Krishnan’s contemporaries and former colleagues as examples. Happy to make modifications and hopefully can get the page reinstated. Thanks Rohanav (talk) 10:25, 25 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rohanav. The page was written in a promotional way and was a copyright violation of http://conference.massparticipationworld.com/blog/ctshowcase-team-member/ravi-krishnan/ Is this a paid contribution? Paid contributions, or other conflict of interest contributions, need to be created in draftspace and submitted through the articles for creation process.
