In 1990 DeLisi joined Boston University (BU) as dean of the College of Engineering.
In addition, the Biomedical Engineering (BME) department added a new dimension to the field, namely molecular and cellular engineering,
and was the home of the seminal research in synthetic biology.
The lobby of the building that houses the College of Engineering Dean's Office is named in his honor,
as is an annual College of Engineering award lecture.

In 1999 DeLisi initiated the Nation's first Ph.D. program in bioinformatics
and served as Chair for more than a decade.
With more than 150 Ph.D. alumni in bioinformatics and systems biology, the Boston University program remains the largest program in the world.
In recognition of his scientific and administrative contributions, an annual award for the best PhD dissertation in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology has been named in his honor.

DeLisi is a Fellow of AAAS
and of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineers.
In 2011 he was elected an honorary citizen of Marineo, Palermo, Italy.

I want to add that the page has been edited by several other editors so the COI tag for one editor violates WP:NDUE and thus have removed it from the article. Irnaghyt (talk) 20:04, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
