Benjamín Kuscevic Jaramillo (Serbo-Croatian pronunciation: [běːɲamin kûʃtʃeʋitɕ xaramîʎo];[1][2] born 2 May 1996) is a Chilean footballer who currently plays for Palmeiras as a central defender.
Career
Universidad Católica
When Kuščević was 15 years old, he arrived at Universidad Católica in 2011 from his former club Union Española. After integrating into the U-15' team, he helped his team win the UC Cup. Thanks to his good performances, he was eventually nominated for the U-17 team.[3] That same year, he signed a professional contract with the club. His debut was on May 18th 2014, in a match against Curicó Unido for the 2014–15 Copa Chile.[4]
Real Madrid
Beginning August 29, 2014, he was on loan for one year at Real Madrid.[5][6] and September 2 he confirmed his spot in the first (youth) team.
Return to Católica
In June 2016, Kuščević returned back to Católica and was made part of the first team by the DT Mario Salas. In his first division debut, he played the full game in a 4–2 win against Universidad de Concepción.[7]
Palmeiras
In November 2020, Benjamín signed with Palmeiras from Brazil to compete in the 2020/2021 season.
International career
Kuščević is eligible to play for either the Croatia or Chile international teams, because of his Croatian origins. He was called to the Chilean squad for friendlies against Serbia and Poland, although he did not play. His playing debut for the team was on 20 November 2018 in a friendly against Honduras, as an added-time substitute for Gary Medel.[8]
