Dear Theroadislong, person is indeed notable due to his leadership of notable organizations and institutions. The significant coverage of him in various language newspapers is enough to create a page here. List of associations may be little interest to you but is in fact important for Indian Muslims. Dr. Muhammed Abdul Hakim Azhari (hi:डॉ अब्दुल हकीम अज़हारी, Ur: ڈاکٹر عبد الحکیم اظہری) is a Sunni Sufi scholar of Shafi jurisprudence. He is rector of notable Islamic seminary Markazu Saqafathi Sunniyya and is executive director of Markaz Knowledge City. Azhari is also associated with Sunni Yuvjan Sangham (Sunni Youth Society) as its state general secretary.[1] He speaks on Islam, education, democracy and human rights.[2][3][4][5] He is also associated with Sunni Students Federation, a students body of Sufi Sunni Muslims.[6][7]

Family and Education

Dr. Abdul Hakeem Azhari is son of Sunni Islamic leader Sheikh Kanthapuram A. P. Aboobacker Musliyar, Calicut, Kerala.[8]

Azhari studied at Jamia Al Az’har Cairo, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Bihar and Jamia Markaz Calicut. He speaks Arabic, Urdu, Malayalam, Hindi and English. He has traveled across several middle eastern countries, Africa, UK, Turkey and Egypt.[8][9]

Works

He has established social and educational institutions in various parts of the country.[10][11] In Uttar Pardesh, he announced to establish hundred schools with a focus on primary education.[12] He manages IAME (A confederation of English medium schools managed by minorities) and Relief and Charitable Foundation of India RCFI etc.[13][8]

Sunni Markaz

Dr. Abdul Hakeem Azhari is the director of Markazu Saqafathi Sunniyya or Jamia Markaz.[14] Markaz is a national Islamic seminary[15][16][17][18][19] at Kozhikode in Kerala, India. Markaz is running more than fifty institutions in various parts of India and some in gulf countries.[20] Presently, thousands of students are beneficiary of Markaz.[21][22]

Markaz Knowledge City

He is involved in developing Markaz Knowledge City (MKC) as its director. MKC is residential and educational hub near Kozhikode city. Unani Medical College and Markaz Law College are fully functional institutions.[23]. Azhari supervised the establishment of Alif Global school.[24]

He is moderate in his thinking and encouraged students to adopt new techniques for agriculture innovation and other employments.[25] In one of the conference, he said, Islam must be preached in most tolerant manner. Our duty is to spread this message of Islam to save humanity from darkness.[26]
