Muhammad Ali Mirza, commonly known as Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza (Urdu: انجینئر محمد علی مرزا; born 4 October 1977) is a Pakistani Muslim Youtuber and a commentator.[3][4]

Biography

Mirza was born on 4 October 1977 in Jhelum,[1] a city in Punjab, Pakistan. He is a 19th grade mechanical engineer in a government department.[5][6][7]

Mirza gives online lectures where he talks about different religious and social issues and runs a research academy where he imparts religious education.[8][5][9] He has been criticized for a number of his speeches which have been deemed as derogatory towards Sahabah, Auliya and traditional scholars by his critics.[5][10]

Mirza allegedly opined that present day Ahmadis are better than the Kitabis (the people of the book). He, however denied this and said that his video clips have been tampered.[5] He was arrested on 4 May 2020 in suspicion of spreading hate speech towards religious scholars.[11][8] Pakistani actor Hamza Ali Abbasi and anchor Shafaat Ali posted on social media condemning his arrest.[8] He was later released on 6 May 2020.[12][13][14] According to Mirza, one of his lecture was presented out of context. He later cited several books as well as the Qur'an in support of his opinion.[8][5]

Assassination attempts

On 14 March 2021, Mirza survived a second assassination attempt, first in 2017. The attacker visited his Quran academy in Jhelum, Pakistan at weekly meeting and attempted to kill him with a knife while taking a picture with him. Mirza escaped with minor injuries. Police arrested two suspects and registered an FIR against them. The attacker traveled from Lahore to Jhelum to kill Mirza.[15][16][17]
