  • Comment: @Hatchens, I think we can figure this between two of us. There is a backlog on AFC - draft average review time is 2 months! We are stretched. No point waiting for others who will have to invest a lot of time to analyse it; they can use this time to review other drafts. Let me try my hand on it. But, I have accepted drafts rejected by others and others can accept drafts rejected by me! We are all here to help and contribute and it's not my word/decision over yours. Vin Gupta is an American pulmonologist and public health researcher.[1] He is a frequent commentator on public health topics for national and international media[2][3][4][5][6] and was under consideration by the Biden administration for the post of United States Surgeon General[7] in 2020. [8][9]

Gupta also serves as Senior Principal of Health and Chief Medical Officer of COVID-19 Response at Amazon,[10][11] affiliate professor at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation,[12] and Major in the United States Air Force Medical Reserve Corps.[13] In a 2021 profile, STAT referred to Gupta as "the unlikely force shaping Amazon’s health plans: A veteran, doctor, and TV persona with big ideas for tech."[14]

Education

Gupta attended Princeton University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He continued his education at Columbia University's Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he received his Doctor of Medicine. He additionally received a Master of Studies in International Relations from the University of Cambridge and a Masters in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.[15]

Career

Gupta completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. Subsequently, he completed his fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.[16] During his medical training, Gupta led the development of a community-based latent Tuberculosis treatment program for homeless residents in Seattle; this work was featured by the New England Journal of Medicine.[17]

While in Boston, Gupta served as the Director of Strategic Health Diplomacy at the Harvard Global Health Institute, focusing on the effectiveness of United States development assistance and global health security.[18] During this time, he was appointed as a non-resident fellow at the Center for Global Development.[19] Here, he worked on issues of expanding universal health care coverage globally.[20]

In 2018, Gupta returned to the University of Washington, assuming a faculty position within the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation with a focus on the global burden of respiratory diseases[21] and the impact of climate change on human health.[22] [23][24] CNBC first reported in January 2020 that Gupta had transitioned to a role at Amazon Care.[25]
