27 Bryant is a bus line operated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway.

Route description

Operation

During the COVID-19 pandemic, service now operates between 6am to 10pm everyday. Unfortunately, service has no overnight Owl bus line when service is not in operation after 10pm through midnight. Frequency is every 15 minutes on weekdays; frequency is every 20 minutes on the weekends.

27 Bryant Transit Reliability Project

The 27 Bryant Transit Reliability Project is a project to reliability and traffic safety on the 27 line. This project focuses north of Market in the Tenderloin and Nob Hill neighborhoods where the 27 experiences many delays and extremely slowest travel times. On April 16, 2019, the SFMTA Board of Directors approved this project.[1]

In early September of 2019, the SFMTA received a Core Values award from the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) USA for "Respect for Diversity, Inclusion and Culture."[2]

Phase 1 Implementation

In August 2019, at this time began the initial project for the 27 to improve reliability and traffic safety. A permanent route change on the 27 went into effect on August 10, 2019, removing 11 stops, and rerouting the initial outbound routing the 27 on Jones. Instead of turning onto O'Farrell, it now turns onto Eddy, traveling directly towards Cyril Magnin, and then will continue following its original routing.[3]

COVID-19

Because of COVID-19, the project made some adjustments in January of 2021. The 27 Bryant was restored at this time as well. The 27 was restored and the routing was modified on January 23, 2021, using the 19 line's temporary emergency transit lanes on 7th and 8th Streets to improve reliability and make the line run more rapidly.[4]

Phase 2 Implementation

Construction is expected to commence in the Fall of 2021, adding sidewalk extensions at bus stops (transit bulbs) and at intersection corners (pedestrian bulbs).

Bus Stop listing

These are all the stops that are currently or previously served by the 27 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Existing bus stops

This is the listing for the existing bus stops. About half of the bus stops on this list opened in 2021 for the reconfiguration on the 27 line. As a result, the other stops that the 27 used to serve are temporarily discontinued unless it is served by another bus line.
