Season 11

Big Brother Canada 10 is the tenth season of the Canadian reality television series Big Brother Canada. It is based on the Dutch series of the same name, which gained notoriety in 1999 and 2000. Arisa Cox returned as the host and executive producer for the series. The season premiered on March 2, 2022, on Global.[1]

This season revolves around 16 strangers (known as HouseGuests) living in a house together while being constantly filmed and having no communication with the outside world as they compete to be the last HouseGuest remaining. Each week, the HouseGuests compete in challenges for power and safety before voting each other out of the house. When only two HouseGuests remain, a Jury of previously evicted Houseguests will decide which finalist wins the grand prize of $100,000 and other sponsored prizes.

Production

Development

On July 6, 2021, Big Brother Canada was renewed for a tenth season.[2] The season premiered on March 2, 2022, on Global. Expedia, Wendy's and Muskoka Spirits returned to sponsor the season. Additionally, the show has three new sponsors: Winners, Belairdirect insurance and Philips Sonicare Oral Care.[3]

Cast

Kassting Inc. returned to cast the tenth season. The submission of applications were opened on July 14, 2021 and were closed on November 19, 2021. Due to restrictions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, no in-person casting calls were held.[4] The final cast was revealed on February 23, 2022.[5]

Prizes

The sixteen HouseGuests are competing for a grand prize of $100,000, as displayed in the 32x60 feet LED screen in the backyard.[6] The runner-up will receive $20,000 in cash. Occasionally, the nominee who survives eviction will have the chance to win a prize of $500, $2,500 or $5,000 by a game of chance following the that week's eviction.[7]

House design

On February 22, 2022, Global released images of the new kitchen, dining area and an unknown room, with a mystery phone. More images of the house were released on March 1, 2022 with a full house tour being released the following day.[8][9]

In the house tour, it was revealed season's house was built to simulate the theme of game shows and to give way for twists and tasks as seen in the numerous mystery doors that line the house. According to Arisa Cox, it took 22,000 man hours to design and assemble the season's house.[6]

The lounge area features a wheel (which is used for veto participant selection), with the archway to the backyard displaying an eye with a dollar symbol ($) on its pupil. The house's pantry is decorated to be a "Slopper's Showcase". The HoH room features designs inspired by the trends of the 70s with the two main bedrooms being decorated with dollar symbols and question marks (?).[6]

Summary

On Day 1, 16 new HouseGuests entered the game show themed "Big Brother Canada" House. As the first four to enter the House, Gino, Jacey-Lynne, Josh, and Summer formed the "Honey Bunch" alliance. Soon after entry, the phone behind Door 5 rang, which Jay answered. They were told by Big Brother that for answering the phone, they became safe for the week and would be ineligible to compete for Head of Household. The HouseGuests then played hard in the Doors of Destiny Head of Household competition. In this competition, HouseGuests drew chips to determine which of the three challenges they would compete in: puzzle, skill, or trivia. The winner of each game would move onto the prize round and learn what is behind each door. In the puzzle round, Gino, Hermon, Jacey-Lynne, Summer, and Tynesha raced to build their door puzzle. The first HouseGuest to complete their puzzle and step through the door would move on to the prize round. Hermon was the winner. In the trivia round, Betty, Kevin, Marty, Moose, and Stephanie answered a series of true or false questions about the House. The first person to answer correctly could eliminate any person of their choice. If they were incorrect, they were eliminated. The last HouseGuest standing would move on to the prize round. Moose was the winner. For the skill round, Haleena, Jess, Josh, Kyle, and Melina raced to toss five beanbags on their spinning target platform. The first HouseGuest to land a beanbag on each of the five targets would move on to the prize round. Josh was the winner. Hermon, Moose, and Josh were then presented with three mystery doors, picking one door each. Behind two of the doors were safety for the week, while the other door held the Head of Household. Josh and Moose earned safety for the week, and Hermon became the first Head of Household of the season. Hermon began to see Jess as a threat after a private conversation, seeing them as very smart and dangerous down the line. On Day 2, Hermon nominated Jess and Melina for eviction, with Jess as his target. On Day 3, Jess and Melina, alongside Gino, Haleena, and Jay, popped in the Power Popper 2.0 Power of Veto competition, in honor of Season 1's first Power of Veto competition. In this competition, HouseGuests must pop a series of balloons in search of green balls. However, they can only pop balloons using the spiked belts around their waist. Once they retrieve ten green balls, they must solve their puzzle. The first HouseGuest to correctly solve their puzzle will win the Power of Veto. Jess was the winner. On Day 4, Jess used the Power of Veto on themselves, and Hermon named Kevin as the replacement nominee. On Day 6, Melina was evicted by a 11-2 vote, with Jay and Jess voting to evict Kevin. Arisa then dropped another twist on the HouseGuests. Throughout the season, and during certain weeks, the surviving nominee will earn the opportunity to open a mystery door in the House. As the surviving nominee, Kevin had the choice of opening Door 14, Door 3, or Door 19. One contained $500, another contained $2,500, and the last one contained $5,000. Kevin opened Door 19 and earned $500.

Following Melina's eviction, the HouseGuests surfed in the Surf's Up Head of Household competition. In this competition, HouseGuests must teeter on back and forth to keep their watermelon ball on their surfboard. If their ball falls, they will be eliminated. The last HouseGuest standing will be the new Head of Household. Marty was the winner. Gino, Hermon, Josh, Kyle, Moose, Summer, and Tynesha formed the "Savage 7" alliance. On Day 7, Marty nominated Jacey-Lynne and Jay for eviction.

Have-Nots

Each week, a group of HouseGuests will be chosen to be that week's Have-Nots. These HouseGuests will be restricted to a Slop diet and will be required to sleep in an uncomfortable bedroom.
