Various Scottish/Irish articles

[edit]

I'm bemused as to the intent of your various edits of the last 20 minutes or so, plus a few earlier, related ones but you evidently have little or no understanding of the meanings of the terms for the various articles and of the articles and topics from which some are related or should be distinguished. You have introduced multiple errors and added superfluous, misleading or irrelevant links or material. I'm sure this is not your intention so please stop. Mutt Lunker (talk) 17:24, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Mutt Lunker I'm new to wikipedia, so maybe I did something wrong. Please do not accuse me of not understanding the subject. Let's calmly discuss, for example here. In general, reading this guideline, it seems to me that it is better to consider a broad concept article on this topic, rather than the disambiguation page. Olchug (talk) 18:01, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You changed a hatnote to not confuse the term "Irish Scottish" with "Scotch-Irish" to state the reverse, that the former may mean the latter. This is incorrect.
You stated that another use of the term "Ulster Scots dialect" is for it to mean "Scotch Irish", plainly incorrectly.
I could go through the rest of your edits but it is plain you have the feeblest grasp of this subject area. I see you are soldiering on, labouring under the considerable misapprehension that all the people of Ulster are Ulster Scots. This is extremely ill-informed. I am sure there is no malicious intent but you are actively causing damage with your persistence. Please stop. Mutt Lunker (talk) 18:38, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Mutt Lunker I never said that all the people of Ulster are Ulster Scots. I just stated that the term 'Ulster people' usually means Ulster Scots people. Naturally, the term can also mean simply a resident of Ulster. Olchug (talk) 18:42, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And you are catastrophically wrong. Cite a solitary, reliable example. Mutt Lunker (talk) 18:45, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please study this. And count when 'Ulster people' means Ulster Scots people and when it means just resident of Ulster. Olchug (talk) 18:49, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Warring

[edit]

Information icon Hi Olchug! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Irish Scottish people several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Irish Scottish people, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. Mutt Lunker (talk)

Please also see, and conform to, WP:BRD. I'd request you self-revert and discuss at the article talk page, pending consensus. Mutt Lunker (talk) 13:04, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Flag of Palestine

[edit]

The cat Category:Flags of states with limited recognition says that it's main article is Flags of unrecognized and partially recognized states (redirects to Gallery of sovereign state flags#Other states). If one goes to that article, then one can see that it is divided into sovereign states and other states, Palestine being in the first of those. So why has Flag of Palestine been included, do you know? Selfstudier (talk) 16:48, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Selfstudier, I do not know, but maybe better to change the gallery of sovereign state flags? And to make it consistent with the list of sovereign states. All this should be discussed somewhere. Olchug (talk) 17:13, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Palestine is also in the list of sovereign states. So if you don't know of any specific reason why it has been just added in to the wrong place, then would you mind taking it out? Selfstudier (talk) 17:17, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It was added by User:Place Clichy, thus you probably should discuss it with him too (at least). Olchug (talk) 17:28, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have pointed him to this page already. Do you not have any opinion yourself? Selfstudier (talk) 17:30, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My opinion is that it is better to change the Gallery of sovereign state flags by moving Palestine to #Other states section. Olchug (talk) 17:35, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why? It has been that way for a long time.Selfstudier (talk) 17:36, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Taiwan and Somaliland, for example, are much more established states than Palentine, which is much more of a legal entity than a state on earth. Olchug (talk) 17:46, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that is your opinion but that is not the consensus of WP editors. Selfstudier (talk) 18:19, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure about the consensus of WP editors. But you asked my opinion... Olchug (talk) 18:31, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I did indeed. I assume you have a similar opinion about the coat of arms? Selfstudier (talk) 18:51, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
yes, the same opinion. Olchug (talk) 19:18, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But no basis, am I right? You just randomly select Palestine either from the list of states with limited recognition or from the coats of arms page?
Where is the best place to discuss this in cats?
Selfstudier (talk) 19:28, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Now I also see Category:Coats of arms of states with limited recognition. This one is worse. On what basis are states being selected from the list of states with limited recognition? Selfstudier (talk) 17:45, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there are many possible reasons for this category not to be complete: maybe not all such countries have an article about their coat of arms, or maybe users did not yet add it to the category. WP:Wikipedia is a work in progress. Place Clichy (talk) 10:22, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yet it was yourself added SoP to these two cats, it looks as if you are editing to make the cats fit rather than having the cats reflect the articles as they are. Anyway, I have better things to do atm than argue about this nonsense, I will deal with this after I have reviewed all these so called "limited recognition" cats.Selfstudier (talk) 10:52, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
