Persia

Surprising that there is no mention of Savfid Persia, considering that it was the Ottoman empire's most dangerous opponent in the east - the Eastern Islamic equivalent of Habsburg Spain or Austria, if you will.

And what exactly does "near east" mean as opposed to east or middle east? I know that Persia is not so much middle east, but still. Timur's campaign was defintely middle east Tourskin 07:01, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
