Hi there! I have a COI: Amgen is a client of my employer, Porter Novelli. Requesting some edits to this article to provide a more complete reflection of the company's history as depicted in independent, reliable sources over the years.

Intro

  • Update the sentence "One of the world's largest independent biotechnology companies, Amgen was established in Thousand Oaks, California, in 1980." to read "It is one of the world's largest biotechnology companies" - the information about Thousand Oaks is repetitive from the line before.
  • After the line ""It is one of the world's largest biotechnology companies", start a new paragraph to add a company description as follows:
Amgen discovers, develops, manufactures and delivers human therapeutics that provide clinical benefits in addressing serious diseases with unmet need. The company’s approach to drug discovery and development begins by using tools such as advanced human genetics to understand the fundamental biologic mechanisms of disease.[1]
  • After "Amgen's Thousand Oaks staff in 2017 numbered 5,125 (7.5% of total city employment) and included hundreds of scientists, making Amgen the largest employer in Ventura County", add:
Currently, Amgen has approximately 22,000 staff[2] and a presence in approximately 100 countries and regions worldwide. The company focuses on six therapeutic areas: cardiovascular disease, oncology, bone health, neuroscience, nephrology and inflammation.[3]
  • Update the sentence "In 2018, the company's largest selling product lines were Neulasta, an immunostimulator used to prevent infections in patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy and Enbrel, a tumor necrosis factor blocker used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases" with more recent sources and information as follows:
In 2019, the company's largest selling products were Enbrel (etanercept), a tumor necrosis factor blocker used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases,[4] and Neulasta (pegfilgrastim), an immunostimulator used to prevent infections in patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy.[5]
  • Update the sentence "Other products include Epogen, Aranesp, Sensipar/Mimpara, Nplate, Vectibix, Prolia and XGEVA." to include recent products, as follows:
Other marketed products include Aimovig (erenumab-aooe), AMGEVITA (adalimumab), Aranesp (darbepoetin alfa), AVSOLA (infliximab-axxq), BLINCYTO (blinatumomab), Corlanor (ivabradine), EPOGEN (epoetin alfa), EVENITY (romosozumab-aqqg), IMLYGIC (talimogene laherparepvec), KANJINTI (trastuzumab-anns), KYPROLIS (carfilzomib), MVASI (bevacizumab-awwb), NEUPOGEN (granulocyte colony-stimulating factor), Nplate (romiplostim), Otezla (apremilast), Parsabiv (etelcalcetide), Prolia (denosumab), Repatha (evolocumab), Sensipar/Mimpara (cinacalcet), Vectibix (panitumumab), and XGEVA (denosumab).
