The third Singapore Wikipedians' meetup will be held on 10 March 2007 in Chaerani's residence, a piece of landed property in Queenstown, Singapore. An estimated ten to fifteen users in the Singapore Wikipedian community are expected to turn up.

Itinerary and details

The meetup will take place from 11.30 am. Lunch outside and some cooking for dinner has been arranged for in the itinerary.

Selection of Singapore 3 Meetup Day

The day is tentatively set as 10 March 2007, barring any violent objections or special reasons (e.g., a major event involving a large majority of members of the community that takes place over the weekend).

Itinerary

  • 11.30 am: Participants should meet at the passenger service counter of Queenstown MRT Station. Please be punctual. Participants will then split into two groups for lunch. If you are late, join the group at either IKEA Alexandra level 2 cafe or Mei Chin Road Food Centre. Do call any Wikipedian if you are late, so this will make things easier for us.
    • The first group will be having lunch at IKEA Alexandra.
      • Price range: $4.90 for the daily special and up to about $10.00 for other meals.
      • Location: About 12 minutes by foot from the meeting place.
      • Environment: Air-conditioned, located in a furniture store.
      • As of 26 November 2006, the vegetarian menu is not served on weekends. However, according to one of the service staff at the restaurant, the spaghetti does not contain meat and is likely to be safe for vegetarians and vegans.
      • As of 26 November 2006, it is not possible to place reservations in the restaurant.
    • The second group will be having lunch at Mei Chin Road Hawker Centre.
      • Price range: $2.00 to $5.00.
      • Location: About 8 minutes by foot from the meeting place.
      • Environment: No air-conditioning.
      • As of 26 November 2006, there are two stalls that sell vegetarian food in the hawker centre.
      • Reservation is not possible in hawker centres.
  • About 12.45 pm: People from the second group will meet up with those of the first group in front of IKEA Alexandra, or in the restaurant. The exact timing will be arranged on the day itself. We will proceed to Chaerani's residence by foot; the walk will be about fifteen minutes long.
  • About 1.05 pm: At Chaerani's residence, participants will follow an agenda for the first part of the meetings. Participants may then have a more casual chat, on Wikipedia-related issues or otherwise. Secured wireless internet access will be available during this segment of the meetup.
  • 1.15 pm: Presentations begin.
  • 2.30 pm: Wiki stuff discussion time comes in (To be discussed: Wikimania 2009, Collaboration, articles, notice board, WikiProjects, anything related to Wikimedia)
  • 3.30 pm: Possible refreshments maybe 15 mins.
  • 4.00 pm: Casual talking time or in this case free time.
  • 5.15 pm: Photo taking time
  • 5.20 pm: Photography outing in neighbourhood (Photographers may go), for the rest, they may choose to tag along or stay at Rani's house for social, editing, Wiki discussion. Basically, free time.
  • 7.00 pm: Dinner options are open as of now. Maybe delivering and taking away food from several places. Maybe we can have some desserts to end the meal. There will be a charge of S$5 for dinner.
  • 8.30pm: Dispersal time.

Goh wz, Terence Ong and Chaerani started the planning for this meetup, and will tentatively be heading its organisation somewhat. However, in line with Wikipedia editors' practise, we will be making decisions based on consensus.

Timings

  • 12′31″: Queenstown MRT Station Passenger Service Counter - Commonwealth Avenue - Alexandra Road - IKEA first-storey building entrance - IKEA Alexandra second-storey store entrance (900 m route)
  • 8′21″: Queenstown MRT Station Passenger Service Counter - Block 145 - Block 146 - Mei Ling Street - Mei Chin Road - Stairway - Mei Chin Road Hawker Centre (600 m route)
  • 11′53″: Mei Chin Road Hawker Centre - Mei Chin Road - Queensway - Alexandra Road - Overpass - IKEA Alexandra second-storey building entrance - IKEA Alexandra second-storey store entrance (1.0 km route)

Note: These times are taken using Goh wz's normal walking pace. Groups, while walking together, tend to take up to 1.5 times the time to clear the same walking distance.

In an effort to reduce random error, ZhongHan decided to measure the time taken to travel along the same route at a leisurely stroll. This speed is more likely to be representative of the speed at which a group of people will walk.

  • 19′05″: Queenstown MRT Station Passeger Service Counter - IKEA Alexandra second-storey store entrance
    • Average time
      • In this case it is better to assume that the time taken is 20 minutes.

Future work

  • Session to be planned in January 2007:
    • Sort out transport arrangements from noon to the time we enter Chaerani's house.
    • Fix the menu and cost of dinner prepared by InfernoXV.
    • Look at Chaerani's place and see what we can do there.
  • To do agenda for meeting: arrange for presentations, etc., if any.
