Amou Haji (1928 – 23 October 2022), or "Uncle Haji", was an Iranian[1] man who was well-known for being "the world’s dirtiest man."[2] Amou Haji was not his real name, but an endearing nickname given to elderly people. Haji lived between a makeshift shack and a hole in the ground in the village of Kahrar-e Dejgah, Fars.[1] Due to his fear of soap and water, he did not bathe for over 50 years, but was pressured into doing so in late 2022, shortly before his death.[1] He died on 23 October 2022, in Kahrar-e Dejgah.
He was the subject of a 2013 documentary titled The Strange Life of Amou Haji.[3]
