Wipeout 3 (also known as Wip3out) is a racing game developed and published by Psygnosis. It was released on September 8 1999 in Europe for the Sony PlayStation. The Designers Republic went for a far more neutral and simple color scheme for the design of the in-game menus and team logos. For most fans, the game's most notable achievement was the addition of analog control. Another new feature was the split-screen two-player option, apparently difficult to program with the PlayStation specifications, but it turned out to be just as fast as the single player experience. Wipeout 3 was also one of the few PlayStation games to run in high-resolution mode (non-interlaced). Wipeout 3 was released in Europe and Japan under the name Wip3out. The game takes place in the year 2116.

Another version of Wipeout 3 was released, titled Wipeout 3: Special Edition, which included some classic tracks from previous Wipeout titles.

Teams

  • Feisar
  • Goteki 45
  • Auricom
  • Pirhana (a misspelling of the existing team Piranha)
  • Qireж (Hidden team)
  • AG Systems (Hidden team)
  • Assegai (Hidden team)
  • Icaras (Hidden team)

Tracks

  • Porto Kora
  • Mega Mall
  • Sampa Run
  • Stanza Inter
  • Hi Fumii (Hidden track)
  • P-Mar Project (Hidden track)
  • Manor Top (Hidden track)
  • Terminal (Hidden track)
  • LS101/NP62 (Hidden prototype track)
  • LS102/MG71 (Hidden prototype track)
  • LS103/AW72 (Hidden prototype track)
  • LS104/AW73 (Hidden prototype track)
  • LS105/GP02 (Hidden prototype track)
  • LS106/GP73 (Hidden prototype track)

The six hidden prototype tracks were tracks that had been drafted but not designed (the track and basics planned but no scenery) which were not going to be included. At the last minute, the developers changed it so that mastering all tracks with all vehicles in a difficulty class would unlock one prototype track. The tracks appeared cel-shaded and very simple in color and design, showing structures built of cubes, simple, featureless tracks and tunnels, and even cel-shaded racing craft.
