SoyBooru is an online imageboard that serves as a platform for sharing and discussing Soyjaks, a type of internet meme that originated on 4chan. The site is also known as OnionsBooru and is a replacement for soybooru.booru.org, which was deleted due to spam flooding in August 2021. On September 6th, 2021, the owner of OnionsBooru transferred ownership to Soot, and the booru was released to the public once again on September 7th, 2021.
History
It was recognized as a good source for soyjaks, but its moderation was not always sufficient. The owner and moderator of SoyBooru was inactive, and as a result, the site was often subject to spam and "coal" attacks. On August 25th, 2021, after user Soyak requested ownership of the site, the entire site was deleted by booru.org admin "Mr K.", due to prohibited content, including real-life pornography and low-resolution gore images.
A few days prior to the deletion of SoyBooru, a "Chud" posted a thread on the /soy/ board of soyjak.party, requesting that someone make a new soyjak booru. Shortly after, a private soyjak booru was made public, and later received official recognition as SoyBooru's successor in a pinned post on /soy/. This new site, originally called OnionsBooru, is now known as SoyBooru, and is a platform for the collection and sharing of soyjak images. On September 6th, 2021, the owner of OnionsBooru transferred ownership to Soot, and the booru was released to the public once again on September 7th, 2021.
Culture
SoyBooru has a long history in the Soyjak community, and Anonymous users are called "Chuds" if they do not have an account. One of the unique features of SoyBooru is that users can express their opinions on a post by referring to it as either a "Gem" if they like it or "Coal" if they do not like it. The site also has a variety of tags that allow users to find content that matches their interests.
In addition to Soyjaks, the site also features a variant of Wojak known as Chudjak or Polljak, which pokes fun at right-wing /pol/ users. Chudjak's facial features include almond-shaped eyes, thick-rimmed glasses, and a prominent chin.
SoyBooru uses the Danbooru imageboard code and offers a variety of content, including images, videos, and discussions related to Soyjaks. The site also has a separate wiki dedicated to Soyjaks.
Soyjaks are well-drawn edits of the classic Wojak meme, portraying a "Soy Boy" with characteristic features such as glasses, a shaggy beard, and an open mouth. The "Soylent Grin," a broad-smiling expression often seen on Soyjaks' faces, is typically associated with happiness. SoyBooru was initially created as a private collection of Soyjaks by a user known as "Chud." However, the site was later made public, and it has since become a popular platform for sharing and discussing Soyjaks.
