- ... that Vindication Island vindicated James Cook's discovery of two islands? Source: Reports indicating that the Candlemas Islands contained three islands or a single island for many years overshadowed Cook's earlier description. A survey in 1930 by DI personnel on the Discovery II confirmed Cook's report, thus suggesting the name for this island.
