Development and casting

On 4 August 2022, DAWN Images reported that a series based on Fatima Jinnah is in development by writer and director Danial K Afzal. It also reported that series will have three seasons focusing on three different phases of her life during pre-partition, partition and post-partition and Sundas Farhan, Sajal Aly and Samiya Mumtaz will portray Jinnah in these different phases.[4] About the casting of Aly, Afzal stated in an interview that for the role of middle aged Jinnah, he was in talks with Sanam Saeed, Iqra Aziz, Syra Yousuf and Aly but he choose Aly as she would carry a similar body language to hers during the 1930s and 1940s around the Independence time.[5] Afzal also stated that many other historical figures like Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Liaquat Ali Khan and Allama Iqbal's characters would also be a part of the series. About the casting of actor for Ruttie Jinnah's character he stated that it would change the landscape of whole South Asian cinema.[1] In August 2023, it confirmed that Aly has withdrawn from the series.[6] The soundtrack of the series was relased on 14 August 2023 where the actors playing Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal, Mahatma Gandhi and Ruttie Jinnah were revealed.[7]

This ground-breaking series promises to unveil the authentic and untold story of Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, showcasing a side of her that goes beyond being merely the sister of Quaid e Azam – Fatima Jinnah Series is a mission to do justice to her memory. For too long, we have overlooked the woman who defied convention and stood at the forefront of Pakistan’s struggle for freedom.
