Mine or mine

[edit]

I created an article Crandall Canyon Mine, without checking Crandall Canyon mine first.

We need to merge the two articles. Is capital "M" right, or lower case??? IP4240207xx 03:18, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS: I looked at mines on "Category:Mines by mineral" and a rough a eyeball guess is 60% upper case, 40% lower case...
O dear. Hmmmm.... After reviewing the google news results for "Crandall Canyon Mine" the results seem mixed as well. I believe that if it is referenced as "the Crandall Canyon Mine" as opposed to "Crandall Canyon's mine" it is a proper noun and should be capitalized. I'm not absolutely positive though. Reviewing naming conventions doesn't seem to proved clear help either. I say we go ahead and merge into Crandall Canyon Mine and make a redirect on Crandall Canyon mine, and see if anyone doesn't like. What do you think? ...Also, great job on the article! ._-zro tc 04:53, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my mind went naturally to UPPER case when I went to start the article. Also, I think the confusion comes when you say: "I work at the coal mine." Then: I work at the Opal coal mine." And, people forget to convert the word to upper case. I agree, UPPER case. And thanks for the kudo's, I think mine has more technical dotting of the "I"'s and crossing the "T"'s, I even copied my opening sentence the other one because it looked so weak. And, then I added the mapit, Google Satillite looks the best. I also tried to pack a lot of info in just a few words and sentences, word economist. IP4240207xx 06:05, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, sounds good. I actually didn't start the article. I probably would have created it UPPERCASE as well. I'm not sure who originally created the article, actually. And I'm very glad you had real info on the mine, the article I was working on basically should have been titled "The Accident @ CC Mine", since it had NO information on the mine itself really. It was quite poor. Thanks again for your contributions! ._-zro tc 06:13, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Colbayns

[edit]

Hi zro, thanks for the advice reference getting to grips with editing the Colbayns article. I am new to this so I hope people will be patient with me.

What was it about the article that brought it to your attention; amongst all the other articles, what takes you to one on a school in a different country to you?Crucible1999 (talk) 16:46, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit @ 16:42, 9 June 2008 contained the word "f*ck", and there were a number of consecutive edits with no edit summary from a user with a blank user page which lead me to investigate. Then briefly reviewing the article, it seemed that perhaps your intentions were not malicious (WP:AGF). However, your edits are in need of some serious work. Please review policies on Verifiability, Original Research, and Tone. You should try to improve the page before someone takes it upon themselves to remove your additions. Adding citations is a good place to start, maybe try here. At any rate, I wish you well, and feel free to ask for help if your ever confused!._-zro tc 23:28, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much zro. My contributions are hopefully going to be considered good humoured but honest. As regards style, I take your point about the word, "F*ck" but that is a verbatim quote as relayed to me by the receptionist, and in the context it struck me as entertaining. Perhaps I could paraphrase it? As regards citations, I shall certainly look into that. I didn't know what an edit summary was but I have seen some other people's now, so I shall work out how to do them, I promise. It'll have to be at the weekend now, though. Will that be soon enough? Many thanks for taking such an interest in my faltering steps and for your kind support.Crucible1999 (talk) 22:42, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In response to your last response about "F*ck" and it being a quote "relayed to you"... I think perhaps I was not clear on why it drew my attention. There is no RULE against the word "Fuck", if it is informative. What drew my attention was the censorship of it in such a manor. As far as you being the only source of the quote PLEASE review WP:OR and WP:V! Also in regards to profanity, WP:PROFA. I'll check back this weekend, I don't know if others will be as patient. Goodluck! ._-zro tc 03:53, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Signing warnings

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for the vandal patrolling. It is really helpful to admins like myself when following up on WP:AIV reports if when folks leave u3, u4, and u4im messages like you did on user talk:12.171.191.195 that there be a signature (~~~~) after the warning so we can easily see when the last warning was left. This is especially important on IP editors. Otherwise we have to match the warning to the history and compare that to the last edit, with is about twice as complex. That being said, thanks for the warnings being issued. Please keep up the great work. Toddst1 (talk) 22:16, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for the heads up. I'm pretty sure I did sign the warning, and all warnings and talk_page eidts, for that matter. I usually use fancy tools and such which helps automate the process, and signs edits as well. Perhaps the issue is that my signature is lame? If so, let me know. I just changed it a while ago, and think its perhaps too long? Thanks again! ./zro (⠠⠵) 22:21, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Benghis. Firstly, thanks for your efforts and contributions! I would advise that you take a look at the notability requirements for organizations. I am guessing that the criteria for inclusion outlined there will most closely reflect the article in question. The major concern would be the citing of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. Also of concern would be the perception of the article seeming like and advertisement seeking to promote the organization, rather than an encyclopedic article. I have also dropped some links on your talk page that will be useful../zro (⠠⠵) 01:10, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you left a tag on this article. I did not see a note about this on the WP:Requests for expansion page. Could you leave a note on the talk page for the article describing what in particular needs to be expanded? Thanks. Wronkiew (talk) 00:33, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. My mistake. I apologize for not leaving a note. I can't remember now exactly what i was thinking at the time. Looking at the article now, one thing that i think would be helpful would be a history on the origin of the award, if you are perhaps privy to this knowledge and have a source. I won't make a fuss if you think the article is fine and remove it. Again, appologize for not makgin a note at the time. ./zro (⠠⠵) 05:39, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Right on. Thank you for not "obstructing other pages". For the record no one is 'rejecting true information'. Please just review some of the links under the welcome message on your talk page. There are some policies and procedures that need to be followed. WP:verify might be of help if you are having a hard time understanding why your edits have been contested. Also, please note, that there is no reason to call others names. Personal attacks will not be received well and will likely result in someone blocking your account. Re: Commodities and Vandalism

[edit]

Hey Zro, and thanks for the note. That's a good point re commodity: this is perhaps not the best word for me to use, and I think I'll change it. I meant it in the sense that like currency or water or oil, information has value and the power to increase the standing of those who use it wisely. Someone without many physical commodities and wealth may nonetheless create value for themselves and increase their place in society by obtaining and using information. I find the internet inspiring, because for now we may not be able to bring everyone in, say, sub-Saharan Africa out of poverty. But giving them better access to information is the first step in giving more equality of opportunity. It's not in itself sufficient, but it does blow my mind that I have access to the entirety of MIT's course materials for free. And thanks for pointing out the vandal on my userpage - I didn't notice. :) FlyingToaster 18:24, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I noticed your are creating some articles and placing a large "under construction" notice at the top. Please consider using one of the templates for this. Thanks. That's very polite and considerate of you. I'll have a look at it later.

[edit]

Hello Zro. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Religion should not be in the schools, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not nonsense - there is meaningful content. Thank you. GedUK  11:10, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're totally right. My error, and appologies. Thanks for the notice. I'll try not to let it happen again! ./zro (⠠⠵) 11:12, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. I've prodded the article, as it clearly doesn't belong on WP. However, CSD is a very particular method of deletion (to stop us admins getting carried away and deleting stuff willy-nilly!). PROD is the best way to deal with articles like this one, and if that is challenged, then it has to go to AfD. Oh, and if you use the talkback template like you did on my talk page, put it at the bottom, or i'll not see if for ages (I happened to check the page history just now, or i'd have missed it!). Cheers, and Happy New Year! GedUK  14:14, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:33, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Cedar Creek Gallery, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Creedmoor (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Questions about my page

[edit]

Hey Zor,
I created the page for Nancy Paterson (Cyberfeminist) after reading the Cyberfeminism which mentions her.
Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I read the guidelines and was wondering what specifically is it that is violating the guidelines?
I removed the links to the personal website after reading the guidelines.
Sarahtariq (talk) 04:42, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Thanks for responding! My concern is that the article needs to assert why the individual or their work is notable, and then support that claim with reliable secondary sources. I'm not familiar with the individual, so I honestly don't know if they meet the notability criteria. The article may very well be warranted, but it needs some sources other than their bio, and their own publications. I didn't propose deleting the article, and instead just put the notability tag on there because I thought you or someone might be able to fix it. Has this person or their work been covered in the news or some reliable source? If so, add some references, and feel free to remove the tag. I would also probably note your reasoning on the articles talk page. If you have other questions, let me know! Thanks for your contributions! ./zro (⠠⠵) 05:08, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey I made some changes to page. I added more detail about Paterson, explaining their notability. I also added more third party sources using academic references. Hi Zro. Thank you for your work on patrolling new pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I'm just letting you know that I declined your deletion request for St thomas school kalyan, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page. Please take a moment to look at the suggested tasks for patrollers and review the criteria for speedy deletion. Particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion, proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. Just a heads up. I declined the speedy deletion, since the A7 criteria for speedy deletion is not applicable to schools. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 08:10, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
