Anachronism?

[edit]

Was there even such a thing as a "union territory" in the 16th century? -- 77.7.149.205 (talk) 11:35, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maldivian claims?

[edit]

When was the last time Maldives actually claimed Minicoy as part of its territory ?? Also, don't the Maldives and Minicoy still have extensive trade and fishing links like they have always had ? Why does the article make is sound like there is some friction when there is none reported ever ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.195.138.211 (talk) 16:39, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article is about an atoll under Indian administration

[edit]

I checked online and there has never been any official claim from the part of the Maldives on this atoll. Perhaps an article titled 'History of Minicoy' should be made in order to display some of those issues, because they only make the geographical article, which is about an atoll under Indian administration, confusing (Xufanc (talk) 04:35, 12 October 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

Thank you for your comment. I am requesting that the main article remove any reference to a Maldives claim on this Island. That is unless the authors can provide verifiable documentation from the Maldives government that they (the Maldives) have a claim on this island. I want the authors to act on this request at their earliest convenience.Chibber (talk) 22:53, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A minister claimed Maldivian sovereignty over the islands on 26 July 1982. It precipitated a diplomatic crisis at the time. There is no current official claim, however, and there is in force a maritime boundary treaty between the two states in which Maliku is on the Indian side of the border. I've updated the section with references to clarify the situation. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:07, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

undo revision by unknown ip (vandalism)

[edit]

though not vandalism per-se, the addition offered no real content and was written in broken english. --RichardMills65 (talk) 05:05, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
