Notability and Uniqueness of Timway

[edit]
      • Hong Kong University of Science and Technology: Timway is one of the selected subject directory/searchable directory as mentioned by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Library webpage. http://library.ust.hk/guides/effective-web.html
    • 2. Timway's (domain name was hksrch.com) early start of its history in 1997 July marked a very important/significant milestone for the establishment of Hong Kong searchable directory or search engine that is much earlier than Yahoo! Hong Kong. (started in 1999) http://hk.yahoo.com/beginner/yhk.html
      • Timway.com was founded in 1997 and the previous domain name of it is hksrch.com for Hong Kong people searching information in HK. As you can see in the domain name registration, it is first created on 1997 Sep for the domain name. With regard to the very difficult spelling of hksrch.com, the domain name has been changed to timway.com in 1999. With its 10 years of presence in HK and many people using it, (The Alexa ranking of it is 3341, http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=timway&url=http://www.timway.com/). The presence of it is very valuable to a lot of Internet users.

Sorry, but that fact that some universities and other web portals include links to Timway doesn't make it inherently notable. --ZimZalaBim talk 01:22, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that if some universities and other web portals simply link to a website doesn't mean it has notability. However, I want to make the following reasons for why deletion is contested:

  • if you try to look at the serious academic research. Timway is of research focus and academic area is interested in Timway. The research is interested in it because of its business value and technology value. Also, the founder of Timmy Yu, who is often invited by universities to give talk to students, meaning that it is of high academic value and students are interested in the topic. (please refer to point 1 of this talk page)
  • Yes, if the other web portal simply link to it doesn't mean it is of high notability. However, if you try to click on http://searchmarketing.hk.yahoo.com/newcustomers/serviceintro/a3.html You see that Timway's logo can be seen in the middle of the page, being highlighted as one of the best major partner with Yahoo! This page states that Timway is one of the five most closest partner of Yahoo! for the Yahoo Search Marketing. Without notability, Yahoo! won't mention it in this page.
  • the notability of this page has already been discussed. And the resolution is to keep it.
