[edit]Hi,
In my searches, I came upon this article on Jstor. However, it is not actually accessible on Jstor; if you find it there, you'll be sent to the Cambridge journals page. It's very particular, so maybe not appropriate, but I feel like finding material for this group will be fairly difficult. Anyway, here is the abstract of what the article is about:
This article is about the role of García Márquez and particularly macondismo as an ideology in establishing the canonic validity of vallenato as a folk genre from the Colombian Caribbean. García Marquez' chronicles of the early 1950s are seen as foundational texts on the aesthetics and value of vallenato; texts which influence subsequent writings on the topic. One of the main topics explored is how these texts acquire canonic validity through the success of One Hundred Years of Solitude. It is then that macondismo – the Latin Americanist celebration of magical realism – becomes an interpretive metaphor for Colombia and vallenato music becomes the sonorous emblem of this metaphor. This occurs through García Marquez' writings, his multiple interventions in Colombian vallenato festivals, and the way vallenato is subsequently taken by a journalistic elite of the country as representing a macondian sonorous paradigm. The article explores how these different elements coalesce in constructing a genealogy of aurality for vallenato, setting the parameters of its interpretive significance through multiple processes of folklorisation of the genre.

Brief Review
[edit]Since I see you are meeting in person this weekend to work on this article, I thought I would provide a brief review of the major areas that still need improvement, much as I would if this came up at WP:Peer review.
- Several whole sections are nothing more than headers currently (Crime & Violence, Poverty, and Class Differences) and will need to either have content added or have the headers removed
- Per WP:HEAD, words in headers are generally spelled out in full (so use "and" not "&") and the name of the article is not repeated in headers if it can be avoided (so "Critics and supporters of McOndo" could just be "Critics and supporters", as the reader already knows the article is about McOndo)
- Article needs more references, many sections have few or no references - for example, "Sex & Sexuality" and "Critics and supporters of McOndo" and "Relationship between Latin America and the United States". Also the lists of authors and works need references too - who says these are McOndo authors or McOndo works?
- My rule of thumb is that every quote, every statistic, every extraordinary claim and every paragraph needs a ref. See WP:CITE and WP:V
- Per WP:CITE references come AFTER punctuation, and are usually at the end of a sentence or phrase
- References need to be done in a consistent style - soem are nicly done, others are just links at the end of the article
- Any chance for a free image of any of the authors or perhaps of something else applicable?
- Wikilinks are usually given for the first use of a term - so for example Alberto Fuguet appears twice before it is linked.
- Once something is linked once in the lead and then once in the text, it usually does not need to be linked again - see WP:OVERLINK
- Do not try to link a whole phrase, break it up into links of the movie and the director - see how I fixed this here (this is a diff, shows the edits I made)
- Bullet point lists are usually to be avoided - why not brieflu discuss each of the novels or films or works (a sentence or two or three) instead? Telling what makes them part of the McOndo movement is much more interesting and informative than just a dry list.
Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, or if you have questions or comments, please reply here or contact me on my talk page. Yours, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:33, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
The project
[edit]I think I'm doing this right so now that the deadline has been changed to the 19th which I thought it was originally I'll go through everything edit all the spelling mistakes and grammar again late on sat night so I'm not clashing with everyone's writing again because it seems to screw up saving it when multiple people are adding or editing. I'll try and add more to the authors, the entomology and try to add to some of the themes,as there the shortest categories we have left on the project.
And who added the pic's to the page because I'm not sure how to do it but we could add a pic of Jorge Franco to the Notable authors section seem as we've mentioned him so much in the page and the most prominent of the literary movement I was thinking of the pic in the link if where aloud to use it

¿Ke te pasa nene? ¿Acaso no eres? Portate bien chato. Los juegos de manos son de villanos . . . y casi, casi hablas castellano.
Luego charlamos, bato.

Narcoliteratura doesn´t belong to McOndo
[edit]Novels like La virgen de los sicarios and Rosario Tijeras don´t belong to the McOndo movement. They are both “Narcoliteratura”, genre which according to Jorge Vopi continues to show an exotic image of Latin America, but from an inmoral point of view. For more on the subject check Volpi´s book El insomnio de Bolívar. I am going to remove the references to these Novels from the article.--Rivet138 (talk) 14:41, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
