Etymology

[edit]

Gëzuar vitin e ri Βατο! I noticed that the section relies exclusively on Orel (1998) for the statement related to or borrowed from Sarmato-Alanic. There are a few issues with this statement. Orel (1998) writes that the term is borrowed from Iranian but doesn't mention "Sarmato-Alanic" (p.496-97). Mallory (1997) considers the term a PIE > Albanian derivation and doesn't mention it as borrowed (p.263), while a much more recent study Curtis (2018) in De Gruyter's Handbook of Comparative and Historical Indo-European Linguistics considers it as inherited from PIE. I think that both the etymology section and the wiktionary entry should be changed accordingly, but I wanted to get your opinion first.--Maleschreiber (talk) 01:24, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gëzuar vitin e ri Maleschreiber! Feel free to change it according to the sources and more recent research. – Βατο (talk) 01:28, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
