HOMLES 2
[edit]Hello, is it worth renaming this HOLMES 2 and doing a write on the original HOLMES? Im wondering if there is that much of a difference between the 2 systems. I refer to the original HOLMES in British Military Intelligence Systems in Northern Ireland. Thanks Fluffy999 18:43, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
- I worked on the original HOLMES system, for Burroughs Machines, the forerunner of Unisys. I am not familiar with HOLMES2, but knowing the technology available in 1985 and in 2000 respectively, in terms of storage, processing power and so on, it seems a fair bet that the two systems share little but their purpose. Note that the original system was entirely text-based, using green-on-black monitors ( Burroughs B20s), networked using the proprietary CTOS networked operating system. As far as I am aware, CTOS systems had been obsolete for a decade before HOLMES2 was completed.
- I am going to nominate British Military Intelligence Systems in Northern Ireland for deletion; it lacks any citations, is badly written, and seems to rely on a single source, 'Geraghty', but without mentioning how one might set about finding out who 'Geraghty' is or verifying what 'Geraghty' said. Which brother?
[edit]Sounds like it was named more for Mycroft (the program's actions are more in Mycrofts line) than Sherlock. 206.116.119.130 (talk) 10:24, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on HOLMES 2. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
- Added archive https://web.archive.org/20090502032022/http://npia.police.uk:80/en/10512.htm to http://www.npia.police.uk/en/10512.htm
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true to let others know.
