Extraneous dialogue

[edit]

I do not understand the following sentence:

Basters, or children of African and Cape Colony Dutch descent, still reside in Lubango, although many were forced to move to occupied Namibia while it was under German occupation between 1928-1930.

Namibia was a German colony from 1884 until 1915, when it was occupied by South African forces (and not from 1928 until 1930 as stated).

Furthermore I do not understand why the Basters were moved to Namibia. Was Lubango occupied by German forces during the First World War?

  • To quote the wikipedia entry for Basters,

"While they remain predominantly based around Rehoboth, some Basters continued to trek northward, settling in the southern Angolan city of Lubango, where they are known as the Ouivamo (many of these were forced to return to Namibia between 1928 and 1930 by white South Africans, who couldn't understand why their illiterate and deeply religious cousins wanted to live amongst the `savages’)."--Thomas.macmillan 00:29, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think this information is to some extent correct. I have found some information on the Internet about people with African names living in Lubango. I stille think the part which refers to German occupied Namibia is still wrong. Therefore I have rewritten the sentence about the Basters. I now contains information I have taken from the article about the Basters.
