Hevedan also known as Hevedi is a Kurdish tribe mainly from Kulp, Silvan and Besni. The name Hevedi is a compound of the Kurdish words Hevi (transl. hope) and the plural form -ân. The origins of the tribe goes back to the 9th century, and in the Arabic sources of the period, they are described as Humeydi, Huveydi and Hamidi. In Sharafnameh, the tribe described as the largest of the 6 tribes that constitute the Marwanids.
