COs of the squadron?!

"... he served as a Commanding Officer of Strike Fighter Squadron 192 (VFA-192)..." (my emphasis)

Does this mean that US Navy fighter squadrons have more than one Commanding Officer? Because at the moment that is what the quote above implies. If ever there was a one letter word that can change the meaning of a sentence, this is it.
