How come nobody is questioning any of this material?
This article contain biographical "facts" that, by anyone's description are somewhat fantastical - putting it mildly. I don't understand how entries, especially those concerning the subjects alleged contact with workers involved in the reverse engineering of alien technology - can be stated as fact without some pretty impressive proof....
And that is, frankly, just the beginning.
Would somebody care to walk me through the process here? This really doesn't appear remotely kosher as a Wikipedia entry. BTW - you're live on Reddit. Curious minds, and all that... Einheit947 (talk) 14:04, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- I absolutely agree with you! JonValkenberg (talk) 11:25, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
Deceptive article lead
@LuckyLouie: the lead in this article exists to accurately summarize who Dr. Nolan is and what he says publicly. It should include his very vocally expressed belief in the U.S. government possessing physical craft from a non-human intelligence. As it is, this Wikipedia article is utterly deceptive. Jjhake (talk) 16:56, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for using the Talk page. No, there's really no "deception" going on here. Your feeling that this is the most important thing about this guy does not dictate how the lead should be written. Our policies indicate that the article WP:LEAD is intended to be the place to summarize the main points of the article, in brief. It shouldn't be used to showcase recent news stories. Lots of academics believe crazy things, but we don't constantly edit the lead of their BLP to showcase the latest crazy thing they said. Such stuff certainly belongs in the article body, and in this case it is definitely in there. - LuckyLouie (talk) 17:20, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Nolan, not me, is making this a primary part of his public identity, and Wikipedia should not hide that IMO. Jjhake (talk) 17:30, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Personally, I feel the Nick Pope (journalist) article lead should showcase his belief in aliens (
'I started my tour of duty believing in aircraft lights,...'I ended it believing in aliens.'
as sourced in this article), but luckily my personal feelings don't trump WP policy. - LuckyLouie (talk) 18:28, 13 June 2023 (UTC)- There is a big difference between a line in an article and multiple, high-profile, long, and bombastic events on a big stage focused exclusively on the topic of belief in aliens. And I agree with you, actually, that the Nick Pope article lead should note that he not only investigated aliens for the British government but believes in their existence. I'm not sure how that violates WP policy when it's a prominent of an aspect of someone's career as is the case with Pope. It's obviously not a case of "constantly edit the lead of their BLP to showcase the latest crazy thing they said" in either of these cases, but you do what you think best. I feel no need to argue either of these points further. Jjhake (talk) 20:20, 13 June 2023 (UTC)

- On a related note, the section Garry_Nolan#Work_in_ufology_and_related_fields is full of WP:FRINGE claims stated in WP's voice, misrepresented sources, and terrible sources like The New York Post. It really needs a thorough going-over and a clean sweep — which I don't have time to get to at the moment. - LuckyLouie (talk) 17:32, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, it is a mess. It's pathetic that a New York Times columnist is commenting on Nolan's belief in UFOs within his NYT opinion piece and that that isn't even a source within this section. But I've not time either. Jjhake (talk) 17:49, 13 June 2023 (UTC)

?not resume?
Hello Dani Dupont, as far as i do understand, "no resume" (Wikipedia:NOTRESUME) does apply to user pages. Maybe, my en-2 does limit my understanding. What is the point of your critics? --Mann aus 23 (talk) 08:06, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
