Does the station name include "&"?

[edit]

Hello. I am the editor of jawiki.
In Japan, an article about 8th Street Station was mistakenly created with the title 8th Avenue Station, and we have just renamed it to 8th Street Station.
Since 8th Avenue Station is the only station on the 6th Avenue Line's 8th Avenue Branch and is noteworthy, we are currently looking into creating a Japanese version of the article.
The problem we encountered is the title of this article.
See the article on Chambers Street–World Trade Center/Park Place/Cortlandt Street station. When one station has multiple station names, "-" is used.
When multiple lines have different station names, "/" is used.
The sign at Lexington Avenue–63rd Street station uses a "-".
If this practice dates back to the era of elevated railroads, the station's name would also be "53rd Street-8th Avenue Station".
Documents that can be accessed from Japan include mentions of "53rd Street Station" and "8th Avenue Station", but I could not find any mention of "53rd Street & 8th Avenue Station".
("53rd Street" and "8th Avenue" are listed here, but there is no "&".)
If it is necessary to distinguish between "-" and "&", this must also be reflected in the Japanese version of the article.
In that case, you need to think about whether to pick up the pronunciation of "&" and make it "ando" in Japanese, or pick up the meaning and make it "oyobi" in Japanese.
Is there actually any record of the name of this station using "&" on timetables or station signs?
If anyone knows, I would appreciate it if you could let me know.
I thought about suggesting a name change, but since I'm not familiar with enwiki rules, I'd like to leave the decision-making to native speakers.
Also, if anyone knows which is the main line and which is the branch line, 8th Avenue Station or 59th Street Station, please let me know.
(If there is a name such as 8th Avenue Branch or 59th Street Branch, it will be reflected in jawiki. If it is unknown, nothing will be done.)
(Double quotation marks are used for emphasis in Japanese convention. I have heard that in English convention, double quotation marks have a sarcastic meaning, but this is not my intention.)--HarukaFujihira (talk) 06:58, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@HarukaFujihira: Yes, the symbol can be seen on this map. Cards84664 13:05, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your valuable materials.
This old map shows Vernon Boulevard–Jackson Avenue station as Vernon & Jackson Avenue station.
Also, on this old map, Bedford Park Boulevard–Lehman College station is now Bedford Park Boulevard–200th Street station.
I recognized this as a document showing that "&" and "-" are clearly differentiated.
Currently, I can't find any documents that describe 53rd Street & Eighth Avenue station as 53rd Street-Eighth Avenue station, so I decided to follow the "&" notation in jawiki as well.
thanks so much! 240B:10:A780:300:E136:8DDC:C0F9:A3BB (talk) 00:03, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
