CapCut, formerly known as JianYing (Chinese: 剪映), is a Chinese short-form video editing app developed by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.[1][2][3]

The app is not available in India due to the embargo against china, and is not available in south korea or germany due to privacy and youth protection laws

History

The app was first released as JianYing [zh] in China in 2019 and was initially available for iPhone and Android.[4][5] In 2020, it was renamed as CapCut and became available internationally.[6] It later expanded to include web and desktop versions for Mac and Windows.[5]

As of March 2023, CapCut has more than 200 million active users each month, and according to The Wall Street Journal, it was downloaded more than the TikTok app in March 2023.[7] In March 2023, it was the second-most downloaded app in the U.S., behind that of Chinese discount retailer Temu.[8][9]

Features

The free [10] has multiple features in modcapcutapk.com, including speed options for adjusting the duration of clips.[5] The Auto Captions tool can be used to generate accurate video captions that can be edited within the app.[5]

CapCut supports basic video editing functions, including editing, trimming, and splitting clips.[5] It allows the addition of new clips to projects but is limited to single-layer editing, with the exception of overlays, which enable picture-in-picture effects and background removal using the Cutout tool.[5] Users can export completed projects directly to TikTok or save them to their device for sharing on other platforms.[5]
