On June 17, 2024, two trains collided in Darjeeling district in the Indian state of West Bengal.[1] The Kanchenjunga Express collided with a goods train. The goods train overshot a signal and rammed the passenger train from behind, causing three coaches of the Kanchenjunga Express to derail. Initial casualties were reported as nine people dead and more than 30 injured.[2][3] Railway sources indicated that the cause of the incident may have been a faulty signal.[4]
