Shwan Subdistrict is a Subdistrict located in Kirkuk Governorate 30 km north of the city, The center of it is the village of Redar which means "The Forest Road",the village used to be called "Jaji Baikhan".

Due to Urban development shwan was transformed into a subdistrict, the subdistrict was named after the main clan, the subdistrict has approximately 76 Villages.[1][2]

The subdistrict is predominantly Kurdish.[3]

Geography

Shwan is located on the Zagros mountains 30 km north of Kirkuk, it consists of 76 villages.

Controversy

In 2023, The Iraqi Government ordered the raid of Shwan against the Kurdish farmers due to frequent clashes with the KRG.[4]
