Left Angle is a deep tech SAS (Société par Actions simplifiée) start-up that develops professional software applications and cloud-based solutions for motion graphics, VFX (visual effects) /compositing, and mass personalized video production. The company mission is to provide modern solutions to improve workflows and optimize the use of modern computer hardware capabilities[1].

Left Angle's main office space is located in INRIA research lab in Grenoble, France[1].

History

Left Angle was founded by software developer Alexandre Gauthier-Foichat and longtime graphic designer François Grassard in 2019.[1][2]

Alexandre previously worked as a research and development (R&D) engineer at French research institute INRIA, in computer vision. His work involved exploring tasks in digital compositing, including tracking moving objects, background subtraction, stereo calibration, and 3D camera pose estimation. During this time he developed Natron, an open-source compositing software[2][1] for which he won a Digital Creation Genie Award at the Paris Digital Summit in 2015[3][4]. Natron user François subsequently worked with Alexandre to identify industry pain points. The two later founded Left Angle.

Left Angle has received the i-Lab 2020 and i-Nov 2021[5] awards, which recognize significant work in research and development, contribution to the French economy, and innovation[6].

Left Angle's first product, Autograph, is a motion graphics / VFX / compositing software application that was released in January 2023 [2][7][8]. In March 2023, the company remarketed the product under two tiers: Autograph Studio for studios and Autograph Creator for freelancers[9]. Autograph has been referred to as an "After Effects alternative" software application and a hybrid software "between Adobe After Effects and Nuke" [10][11].

Autograph is supported on Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
