Sam Carling (born April 2002) is a British politician who has served as Member of Parliament for North West Cambridgeshire since 2024.[1] A member of the Labour Party, he has represented West Chesterton on the Cambridge City Council since 2022, holding the office of Executive Councillor for Open Spaces and City Services.[2]
Carling attended Barnard Castle School, an independent boarding school in County Durham, and achieved 5 A* A-Level grades and an EPQ. Carling then read natural sciences at Christ's College, Cambridge, graduating with First-class honours in 2023.[3]
Carling defeated incumbent MP Shailesh Vara at the 2024 general election by a margin of just 39 votes, becoming the first ever Labour MP for North West Cambridgeshire. At 22 years old, he is the current Baby of the House.[4] and the first MP to be born in the 21st century.
