Charlotte Grace Coles (born 7 May 1998) is an English actress. She began her career in theatre. On television she is known for her roles as Genevieve Quinn in Paper Empire (2023–)[1] and as Virgilia in Coriolauns for the award-winning series[2] The Show Must Go Online (2020).[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Coles grew up in West Yorkshire.[4] She started dance and drama at a young age, attending Stage 84, The Yorkshire School of Performing Arts in Idle. She regularly performed in musicals at the Alhambra Theatre while attending the youth stage school,[5] winning the Premier Award in 2011.[6]
For academic studies, Coles attended Bradford Grammar School, where she also played both netball[7] and table-tennis competitively.[8] She is also an Alumni of St Aidan's Sixth Form in Harrogate,[9] before moving to London to train as a dancer at London Studio Centre.[4] She was later awarded a scholarship to study Musical Theatre at Arts Educational, graduating with a first class honours degree.[10] She has also trained at The Berg Studios in Los Angeles.[11]
Career
[edit]Coles’ career began as a child theatre actress in 2008 when she was cast in Roger’s & Hammerstein’s musical Carousel, alongside operastar Lesley Garret in the UK touring production.[12] Her next professional role was with Opera North in Madame Butterfly (2011) at the Grand Theatre, Leeds.[11][13]
After graduating from drama school, Coles' debuted in the role of Rosaline Capulet in Romeo & Juliet in London. She continued her career on the London stage, going on to play Marcy in Pasek and Paul’s Dogfight,[14] at the Southwark Playhouse, Elizabeth in a new production of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. She was part of the cast for the premiere of A Little Princess (2018) directed by Arlene Phillips at the Royal Festival Hall.[11][15]
Coles was involved in the workshop of Perfect Pitch’s The Guinea Pig Club[16] at the Royal & Derngate Theatre.[17] The actress has previously worked and performed at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester (2018–2019)[18] and performed at the Royal Albert Hall in the televised production of Disney's Broadway Hits[3] (as part of the series Friday Night Is Music Night)[19] and at the Olivier Awards, accompanying Tony Award winner Audra McDonald.[4][20][21]
In 2020, Coles played Virgilia in Coriolanus for The Show Must Go Online, the show received 3 awards and 1 nomination.[2][22][23][24] From 2021-2023, Coles toured the globe as a vocalist in World Of Musicals.[4][11]
Coles joined the cast of Paper Empire as series regular Genevieve Quinn for the shows third season in 2023.[25] She joins the current stars of the cast Robert Davi,[26][27] Kelsey Grammer,[28][29] Denise Richards,[30][31] Wesley Snipes,[32] Anne Archer,[33] Cuba Gooding Jr,[34] Steve Gutenberg[35] and AnnaLynne McCord.[36] Filming is ongoing and continues through 2024 in Saudi Arabia[37] in connection with Film AlUla,[35] with showrunner Robert Gillings[38][39] at the forefront of production.[25][40][41][42]
Coles attended Cannes Film Festival[25] and the Paper Empire Premiere in 2023 along with other select cast members from the TV show.[43][44]
Coles has been cast as the female lead in a new action film franchise and in horror film Here, Live Devils. [citation needed] Coles has previously worked in music videos, commercials and as model.[10][11]
