Strong technical source

This article published on 3 June—before the 4 June launch—has a good deal of information on the constellation, how the orbit raises are done, where the sats are ending up, etc. Will be a good source for improving the article. Evaluating SpaceX’s Starlink Push by Danny Lentz, 3 June 2020.

99 countries?

How is it the intro stating coverage in 99 countries when the table shows only 70 something 73.210.30.217 (talk) 07:38, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I changed it to "over 70". --09:31, 24 May 2024 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mfb (talkcontribs)

Issue with map of approved countries

At least one issue with the map. I see that Colombia is in there twice. One copy is directly to the right of where Colombia actually is and covers some countries partially like Venezuela. 132.183.56.67 (talk) 15:52, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Group 9 and 10

What about these groups? How many satellites are planned for these groups? 2001:9E8:CAFE:AA00:40:D09A:5365:4A11 (talk) 07:45, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There aren't any such groups. Ergzay (talk) 10:17, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, I just saw them. Not sure. We really don't have any info on them. Ergzay (talk) 10:28, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Planetary photometry Please discuss here before engaging in edit warring. The brightness is sourced directly from the paper. If you have issues with that you need to explain yourself. Ergzay (talk) 23:03, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Choosing 19% is cherry picking as it pertains to Original design only, which had no brightness mitigation. The values for VisorSat and for Post-VisorSat are 44% and 24%, respectively. Planetary photometry (talk) 17:01, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

100 Countries

Please check if Starlink is available in 100 countries and if so we can add it to the article. As per the below, it is.

"Starlink now available in 100 countries, says Musk In the recent announcement, Elon Musk said that its internet service has reached 100 countries, Sierra Leone in Africa being the 100th from the list. Musk made the announcement via an X post."

It is not available in 100 countries. Musk did not say that. Ergzay (talk) 00:08, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

V3 satellites

Elon referenced v3 satellites in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFqjoCbZ4ik&t=1633s&ab_channel=EverydayAstronaut at 11:00, does anyone have any details? 209.6.146.194 (talk) 22:00, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New map claims service is active in Ukraine without permission

@Fhjjjjft Please fix your map you added that claims that Starlink is active in Ukraine without permission. I am removing the map and reverting to the previous more accurate map until this is fixed. Ergzay (talk) 01:29, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Error in SVG map of coverage

[1]https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Starlink_availability_map_by_country_2024-05.svg

I have noticed that the above map contains a duplicated overlay of Colombia, just slightly west of the actual position, overlapping parts of Northern Brasil and Venezuela. I have no idea how one would go about editing this, so thought I would raise it. I have not poured over the map exhaustively so cannot say that other errors do not exist, but this is the only one that I have seen. 195.213.143.38 (talk) 17:07, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: East! 195.213.143.38 (talk) 17:08, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rather than fix it, a new map needs to be uploaded. Ergzay (talk) 21:34, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This seems reactionary and exaggerated in the extreme, Starlink might, MIGHT, contribute to the possibility of a space hazard at some point in the undefined future; but categorizing Starlink as a space hazard right now seems premature and possibly a violation of Wiki:crystal ball. Largely Legible Layman (talk) 02:01, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I'm going to go ahead and remove it. Ergzay (talk) 16:13, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Notifying both @Yiosie2356 and @Jrdelpino who previously did some minor edit warring on this subject. With Jrdelpino apparently offering this link as evidence.
I disagree that it presents sufficient evidence that it is an explicit space hazard.
The only other objects in that category related to man-made objects are satellites that were targets of anti-satellite weapons or sub categories about derelict satellites or space debris. If Starlink is to be described as a space hazard then other low earth orbit satellite constellations should be treated the same. Ergzay (talk) 16:28, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
