Yes, the MFJ may have begun in 1987 with more formal events in 1988-1992. This article is also incorrect about the re-emergence of Marches. There are documented marches from 2009 as well as Jesus Day events (the renamed MFJ in the US) between 2000-2009. I have sources but I'm not at home at the moment.
