Ramciel or Rumbek?
I went to the Lakes article from this page and saw in the Infobox that Rumbek is the capital yet on this article it says that Ramciel is the capital. Which article is true?Zbase4 (talk) 23:25, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- Rumbek is the capital of Lakes State (much as Madison is the capital of the U.S. state of Wisconsin). Juba is the capital of the entire country of South Sudan (as Washington, D.C., is the United States capital). Ramciel is the proposed capital of South Sudan, but it is in the planning stages only.

Location
It seems very odd to me that Ramciel is such an important place in South Sudan, being considered the geographic heart of the country and the site of the new (yet to be built) capital city, yet I can't find a single map of it or its geographic coordinates on the internet. Does anyone have a source for the town's location? -Kudzu1 (talk) 20:58, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- The city doesn't yet exist. It is a proposed site – one travel site called it a "somewhat unprepossessing settlement..., a scattering of huts in the midst of a swamp" (Lovell-Hoare, Sophie; Lovell-Hoare, Max (26 February 2014). "Ramciel: A new capital for South Sudan?". Bradt Travel Guides. Bradt Travel Guides. Retrieved 9 April 2015.) Its physical feasibility is being examined as of 2012 ("Survey of new South Sudan capital Ramciel to complete in six months". Sudan Tribune. 5 April 2012. Retrieved 9 April 2015.). In Google Maps, typing "Ramciel, South Sudan" yields geographic coordinates of about 6.245732, 31.276062.
— Molly-in-md (talk) 10:57, 9 April 2015 (UTC) - it is located on the northern territory of Awerial County (Aliab Land), covering the two Payams; Bunagok Payam and Abuyung Payam on this coordinate 6.245732, 31.276062 Abiok Thook (talk) 09:29, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
My revert
@Red Icarus of Jakarta: I have again reverted your addition. You ask about my reasons for removing, so here goes:
- Your addition is unsourced. One of the basic principles of Wikipedia is that the information should be verifiable. That means that when you add information, other people should be able to verify that it is correct. That is done by citing reliable sources that other people can check. You can read about verifiability here and about reliable sources here. What you or I know or think we know is not admissible unless supported by reliable sources.
- Your addition is original research. Even if the facts are sourced, our deductions and conclusions from these facts are not admissible. You can read about original research here.
- There are also some other Wikipedia guidelines that are useful in this context: You can read about how to and how not to write about recent events here. And you can read about how to and how not to write about future events here.
Finally you should learn what to do if any of your edits are reverted. You can read about how to use the talk pages to solve such situations here. Regards! --T*U (talk) 16:21, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Map Error?
The location shown on Wikipedia isn't anywhere near the geographical center of the country. Google Maps gives a very different location for Ramciel, which *does* seem to be near the center. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.254.29.125 (talk) 03:38, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
- This is the correct geographical coordinate 6.245732, 31.276062. for Ramciel in the Aliab territory of Lakes State, South Sudan Abiok Thook (talk) 09:41, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
