Synopsis

Template:Spoiler Marge becomes a spectacle during a PTA meeting for not having an e-mail address, and she decides to take a chance on using the Internet. Amazed and delighted by all the Internet has to offer, Marge joins a popular role-playing fantasy game called "Earthland Realms." To Marge’s dismay, the game has her interacting with practically the whole town of Springfield, including Bart, who happens to be the game’s most feared and destructive player. Meanwhile, Homer saves Lisa's soccer game from cancellation after he volunteers to take the place of a referee who recently quit. However, Homer’s refereeing skills only exasperate Lisa, and her competitive streak gets the best of her.[2]

Cultural references

  • Homer scores a goal and rips his referee shirt off like Brandi Chastain did when she won the 1999 world cup.
  • Homer headbutts a linesman as Zinidine Zidane headbutted Marco Materrazi in the 2006 Fifa World Cup Final.
  • The Platoon theme, Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber, plays during the soccer brawl Lisa watches on DVD.
  • "Earthland Realms" is a parody of popular MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft, Runescape, and Everquest.
  • Bart's character's demise is smilar to that of the Black Knight's in Monty Python and The Holy Grail. A blade is stabbed through his visor and all four of his appendeges are cut off.

Trivia

  • Marge says she was born on Randy Quaid's birthday. That means she was born on October 1st.
  • Jessica Lovejoy and Sophie (Krusty's daughter) are both seen playing soccer with Lisa.
  • Ronaldo's football kit is out of date; in this 22 April 2007 episode his jersey has the crest of Real Madrid. Ronaldo agreed to a transfer to AC Milan on 18 January 2007. However, the show is animated way off in advance before the episode is actually aired. It could've been made before he transfered to AC Milan and the animators didn't have enough time to fix the error.
  • Gamer is a perfect anagram of Marge, that is the most likely source of the name
