You can't talk about horse racing on the Gold Coast without making mention of the Magic Millions thoroughbred auction sales and races. This annual event held in January each year attracts buyers and enthusiasts from around the world, with one year a staggering $100 million dollars turnover in yearling sales.

The 18 day event focuses on '5' main sales(auction) days and one main race day featuring the Magic Millions 2yr Old Classic (over 1200 m) and Magic Millions 3yr Old Trophy (over 1400 m) which in 2007 will be held on January 13th. Only horses that a purchased through one of the Magic Millions auctions are entitled to race in the events.

The Magic Millions carnival is the brainchild of creative and flamboyant entrepreneurs Gerry Harvey (of Harvey Normans) and John Singleton. In 2005 John Singleton won the 3yr Old Trophy with Tippitaka and proceeded in true Singo-Style to shout the entire bar at the Gold Coast Turf Club. He then backed up in 2006 to win the 2yr Old Classic with Mirror Mirror.

There is a range of sporting facilities on the Gold Coast from the Carrara Stadium, Carrara Indoor Sport Centre, Nerang Velodrome and the Sports Super Centre. Carrara Stadium[2] is the city's largest open air, oval stadium with an official capacity of 18,000. Gold Coast Stadium was previously the home of now the now relocated Brisbane Bears and now defunct Gold Coast Chargers. Carrara Indoor Sport Centre[3] neighbours Carrara Stadium and has a seated capacity of 3,000. It was previously the home of the defunct NBL team the Gold Coast Rollers.

Following the admission of Gold Coast Titans into the NRL competition, Queensland Government, in conjunction with Gold Coast City Council and Robina Land Corporation, announced their intention to construct a new, multi-million dollar, rectangular, all-seated Gold Coast Stadium at a site in Robina adjacent to Robina Station.

The Gold Coast Stadium is expected to be open for the 2008 National Rugby League season.

The Regional affiliates are Prime Television, NBN Television and Southern Cross Ten, from the Northern New South Wales license area. Also broadcasting to the area are The Queensland ABC and SBS television services. Subscription television services Foxtel (via cable) and Austar (via satellite) are also available.
