Serranus Hastings

Serranus Clinton Hastings (18131893) was the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of California and founded the Hastings College of the Law in 1887 with his gift of $100,000. [1] He also served as a Democrat in the United States House of Representatives from December 28, 1846, to March 3, 1847, representing Iowa. He also served as Chief Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court in 1848.
