Note: During the 800s AD the population of Baghdad reached 1,000,000. Various events such wars, political turmoil and natural disasters caused most of the pre-1000 populous cities' population to decline dramatically. Hence Kaifeng, China became the most populated city in 1013 AD with a population of 400,000.
