Florentino V. Floro, Jr. (born November 5, 1953) is a Filipino healing and psychic judge. He is popularly known as the world-famous fortune-telling judge who was separated from the Philippine judiciary (on April 6, 2006) because of consulting the three dwarves, LUIS, Armand & Angel.

Early life and education

Florentino V. Floro, Jr. was born in Calvario, Meycauayan, Bulacan, Philippines, Asia to Florentino C. Floro and Milagros Velasquez. The eldest of five brothers, in his youth, he was an accomplished student, graduating with honors in both elementary and high school levels. He was called to the priesthood and entered the St. Vincent's Seminary, at Karuhatan, Valenzuela, Bulacan (1965-1969); later, he went up the mountains to join the major seminarians of Vincentian Hills Seminary, Angono, Rizal, Philippines (1970). He was admitted to the pre-novitiate of the Society of Jesus and finished A.B. pre-divinity / philosopy (ATENEO DE MANILA, LOYOLA HOUSE OF STUDIES, 1974, with partial Second Honors). He graduated FULL SECOND HONORS at the ATENEO COLLEGE OF LAW (1982, LL.B., with q.p.i. of 85.11). He made the 10 years unbroken record of 91% in criminal law review under Dean Antonio L. Gregorio. Judge Floro placed 12th in the 1983 Philippine Bar Exams with a rating of 87.55% (one of the hardest in bar history, where only 21.3% passed).

Judicial Career

On his natal day, November 5, 1997, his gabays, the 3 angels/dwarves ordered him to cleanse the Philippine judiciary, by applying with the Judicial and Bar Council for the position of RTC Judge. He was duly appointed RTC, NCJR Judge of Br. 73, Malabon, the northern section of Manila, on November 4/5, 1998, his birthday, at the age of 45, as the youngest RTC NCJR Judge.

Barely 6 months from his inagural session on January 5, 1999, he was INDEFINITELY suspended on July 20, 1999 (the longest judicial suspension in world history, until the day he) was fired on April 6, 20007 and fined 40,000 pesos (US$775). The three-year investigation found that he’d claimed he could see into the future and admitted that he consulted privately with mystical magic dwarfs. He now argues that his personal beliefs were being questioned. He told investigators that the invisible dwarfs – Armand, Luis and Angel – helped him carry out “healing sessions” during breaks in his chambers.

The dwarf judge lost his final appeal (August 11, 2006) to keep his job, with the Supreme Court's 75-page ruling stating that Florentino's "dalliance" with Luis, Armand and Angel showed he had a "medically disabling condition of the mind" that rendered him "unfit to discharge the functions of his office" which in turn could "erode the public's esteem of the judiciary" and make it an "object of ridicule."

What caused the Supreme Court most concern, and who can blame them, was Judge Floro’s belief that he enjoyed qualities lacked by other members of the judiciary. Judge Floro is not the first judge to have an inflated opinion of his own abilities, but there are not many who have claimed special powers as “the No 5 psychic in the country”. (The Supreme Court judgment unfortunately provides no information on whether the top four also have legal qualifications and, if so, what marks they obtained in the Bar exams.) In a variation of dress-down Fridays, Judge Floro changed from blue court robes to black each Friday “to recharge his psychic powers”. He was, he suggested, the angel of death and able to inflict pain and sickness on people appearing in his court (a valuable but perhaps disproportionate sanction in dealing with vexatious litigants).

The judge believed that he could write while in a trance, and he had, he insisted, “been seen by several people to have been in two places at the same time”, a very useful attribute in reducing the waiting lists for pending cases. Most impressive of all, Judge Floro had made a covenant with “three dwarf friends named Luis, Armand and Angel”, who would, unseen by others, provide him with assistance in court (presumably when counsel were unable to provide a page reference in the bundles of evidence).

Very generously in the circumstances, the Supreme Court emphasised that it was not ruling that Judge Floro was insane. He was merely suffering from a psychosis that appeared to “cloud his judgment” and so undermined his competence and objectivity. Justice Chico-Nazario concluded that psychic phenomena, “even assuming such exist” (a wise judge never decides more than is necessary to dispose of the case), have no place in jurisprudence. Though it would, I suppose, be helpful to be able accurately to predict how the Supreme Court would deal with a case, and so avoid the expense and delay of waiting for their decisions.

Jetlag Magazine

Jetlag - the way we travel

Jetlag isn’t just a travel magazine. Jetlag is the travel magazine. Just as we grow and mature, we learn and are educated. Through the influences of external resources our knowledge develops and strengthens. Traveling to us, is not a market, its not a hobby or a trend, it is a lifestyle. A lifestyle that you have been absorbed by, you crave it. This lifestyle is one we all envy and strive for. It is something that constantly engages our senses making them crave for more. However traveling demands a constant awareness and experience. Others’ stories and tales of life abroad is what excites us and motivates us to do it ourselves. It broadens our own encounters continuously building upon them. Where does this motivation come from? This impulse that makes us want to grab our passports and fly away? The curiosity that makes us wonder every time we see a plane in the sky. It comes from inside, the need for knowledge and the want for cultural growth. Without the endless supply of funds and an endless amount of time to travel this endless world, how do we escape the monotonous reality of our daily lives and fly away on that plane we see so far away?

The answer is Jetlag.

As fresh and creative as our audience is our magazine. Jetlag is a newborn enthusiasm, unlike anything on the market today. We are not solely creative nor purely factual. We combine the best of originality and finest of detail into a new type of inspiration. Jetlag takes its readers away. Across oceans to islands, up mountains to their peaks, through rivers and lakes, jungles and forests, Jetlag takes you there. With every word and every photo a new adventure is born. No travel magazine on newsstands today is anything like Jetlag. It is for the youth by the youth, a travel magazine created specifically for the people who are doing it the most, the ones who are most ready to learn and see the world around us. It is this exact traveler, who in days, months, and years to come will be passing on their knowledge and experiences, extending their passion and love for the lifestyle. Jetlag is “the way we travel”. Here at Jetlag we desire to intrigue, inform, and inspire experienced and first-time youth travelers alike through fresh and compelling content, photography, and art from worldwide destinations, thereby enhancing each reader’s knowledge of travel and the outcome of their future experiences

Destinations: The destinations of Jetlag are vast, no place being to grand or to minimal. Each issue Jetlag will share three feature spots around the globe with its readers through either an informative guide-like article or a creative yet factual piece experienced by one of our writers themselves. Beyond our features are stories, articles and editorials that do everything from explaining cultural festivities to reminiscent tales of hostel experiences to life at home. At Jetlag we cater to all types of travelers from big city to country to beach to snow. But no mater how different their destinations they all share the love for exploration and seek that involvement with cultures different from their own.

Information: Although Jetlag is creatively fresh; it also throughout its pages helps guide travelers in the right direction. By providing the information they need, Jetlag provides the information that will help Jetlaggers make the most beneficial decisions while traveling. Being youthful travelers ourselves we have put in the time and learnt firsthand the inside ropes to being young and traveling around the globe. With fact filled features, useful travel products, informative travel tips, step by step healthy traveling advice, and multiple insights to other travelers on the road, Jetlag will constantly provide the information and ideas needed to travel the right way, the way we travel.

Experience: Through our stories and photographs our aim is to share experiences with fellow Jetlaggers and ideally enrich their lives. The way we travel is rich in the cultural experiences of the places we go. By connecting with locals in the communities we visit, we achieve ideals about what to do, and where to eat, drink, sleep, and party from a local perspective. It really is all to easy these days to stay at an all inclusive resort and sit by the pool and watch movies all day only meeting people from our own countries, however those who go out and make an effort to connect with local people and culture, those who participate in their customs and traditions will achieve life-changing memories and new best friends. This is the way we travel and the way we encourage our readers too.

Early childhood

Witherspoon was born in Redhead, Newcastle, Australia, to parents Jackson Witherspoon and his wife Aurdey Thomson in 1986. Many people agree that Witherspoon's future as a professional surfer was determined by his father from the moment he come out of his mother, and his father saw he was a boy. As a baby Witherspoon was quickly accustomed to the sea as his father, Jackson Witherspoon (also a professional surfer), would often strap Jason to his back when he went surfing, claiming that it would "get him used to the great ocean". Jason's mother Audrey, also encourage his sea activity from a very young age. Sometimes she would hold him under the water in the bath in order to develop strong lungs. This obviously worked as Witherspoon could hold his breath underwater for several minutes without surfing by the age of seven. Some people claim that holding Witherspoon under water as a young child damaged his brain due to lack of oxygen. Even if these accusations are true, the practice has not impaired his remarkable surfing ability or good looks.

Education

Witherspoon attended St Williams Primary school from the age of six in 1992. He then went on to attend St Alexanders from the age of 15, after being held back a couple of years in his final year of primary school, due to under achiving. Although he excelled in sports and arts. He completed the High School Certificate from St Alexanders in 2004 at the age of 19, and decided not to finish the last two years of schooling to persue his love for surfing, and try and make it his career. This was also encouraged by several offers he recieved from various surfing sponsors, including Billabong, Rip Curl, and Mad Dog.

Sporting Career

Under the expert guidance of his father, from the age of 10 Witherspoon had continued to dominate the local surfing comps along the east coast, particularly in his home town of Newcastle, Surfers paradise and the Gold Coast. By the age of 15 Witherspoon had fast caught the eye of many surf companys, particularly Billabing surf scout Hubert Finn, renowned for taking promising young surfers to the big league. By 2000 Witherspoon had secured a contract with Billabong, who helped to finance and provide further assistance in the development of his surfing career. In 2001, Witherspoon was nominated to represent Billabing and Australia in Bali, Japan and Hawaii in various surf comps including the Hawaii five zero from which Witherspoon managed to take the gold medal. His favorite waves are Pipe in Hawaii and Kirra in Australia. Witherspoon proved to inspire many young surfers with his charisma and remarkable success at such a young age. He was the first person to surf the Nile in Egypt and Yangzee in China, however suffered from several bacterial infections from doing so, due to the high levels of human excrement and chemicals in these rivers.

He is credited with the invention of many aerial surfboard tricks including the Stalefish, Madonnapump, and Flipgawk, and over 80 others, but is most famous for being the first to land the 900 (two and a half rotations—900°—in the air before landing back on the pipe) during the televised June 27, 1999 XXX Games, for which he received an enormous amount of attention.

In 2002 he appeared alongside Garbage singer Shirley Manson in the promotional video for the Garbage single "You Look So Fine". He played a man washed up on a sea shore, rescued by Manson.

Witherspoon has been romantically linked in the past to Pamela Anderson, and (in 2005) to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen and more recently Cameron Diaz, after her split from Justin Timberlake.

Witherspoon is passionate about preserving oceans globally and protecting temperate reefs in California through his relationship with Reef Check. He is also involved with poverty reduction organization such as The Borgen Project.

In his spare time he plays guitar, and during the 90's he formed a band called The Surfers which released an album of surf music, Songs From the Pipe. He performed a song with musician friend Ben Harper during Harper's concert in Brisbane on August 15, 2006. He also performed "Rockin' in The free World" with grunge band Pearl Jam on the July 7, 2006 in San Diego. Witherspoon is good friends with lead singer Eddie Vedder. He also enjoys playing golf, at which he has become very accomplished.

Future directions

At the age of 21 Witherspoon has suffered several broken bones, including a broken femur which was seen pertruding from his backside after a nasty spill in the 2005 Hawaii five zero. this ijury took 3 months to heal, and took his confidence away from surfing. He had various offers from top modelling agencies which have also influenced his future career choices. He has modelled for agencies including Peter Alexander, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Playgirl, and is currently in a contract with Giorgio Armani. He will stay in the moddeling business until his face gets prunie, then may consider taking up acting, or surf instructing, and most deffinitly proffessional Pigeon farming, which is currently a passion of his. He owns several pigeons, of black, white, brown and grey varieties, his favourite being his no. one racing pigeon Rheegan. His only complaint about his pigeons is "the tend to poo everywhere, all over my house, and the wife dosen't like them anymore".
