• Jackson Belleville (Jackson Douglas), a produce supplier who dates and later marries Sookie
• Taylor Doose (Michael Winters), town selectman of Stars Hollow. Taylor is very uptight, organized and, logically, unpopular between the citizens, he oftens want to preserve the town historical past and produces many events. Jackson temporarily replaces Taylor as town selectman, showing how unpopular he is (geting only 10 votes, 9 of them because Lorelai asked people to vote for him). He hates disorder and many times showed disaproval of protesting. Taylor has being adept of using his position and power to get what he wants but he nevers breaks the law and usually do those things when lacks other opition.
• Mrs. Kim (Emily Kuroda), the strict, conservative Christian mother of Lane Kim, who owns Kim's Antiques
• Brian Fuller (John Cabrera) (2002 - 2007), member of Dave Rygalski's band which Lane joins. Later Brian, Lane and Zac live together.
• Christopher Hayden (David Sutcliffe), Lorelai's childhood sweetheart, Rory's father, and Lorelai's husband (they later divorce).
• Max Medina (Scott Cohen) (2000 - 2003), Rory's English teacher at Chilton, who dates and becomes engaged to Lorelai
• Tristan DuGrey (Chad Michael Murray) (2000 - 2001), a Chilton student who has a crush on Rory, though she is wary of him. He is later sent to military school in NC for breaking into his friend Bowman's dad's safe.
• Marty (Wayne Wilcox) (2003 - 2007), a Yale student (known, early on as "Naked Guy" between Rory and her mom) whom Rory befriends, who has a crush on her. He reappears in season 7 as the new boyfriend of Rory's new friend Lucy.

Stars Hollow

• Patricia "Miss Patty" LaCosta (Liz Torres), Stars Hollow's flamboyant dance instructor. She oftens makes references to her past as a dancer and singer, how much of it is true is unknow. She and Babette know most of the gossip of the town.
• Babette Dell (Sally Struthers), neighbor and friend to the Gilmore girls. She enjoys singing and music and appears to had being involved with many singers in the past and had a very "interesting" life, she mentions to be pushed out of a car once. Ofter paired with Miss Patty, Babette is very into gossiping.
• Zach van Gerbig (Todd Lowe) (2002 - 2007), member of Dave Rygalski's band which Lane joins; he later dates and subsequently marries Lane. He becomes a father when his and Lane's twin sons, Kwan and Steve, are born near the end of Season 7. His own father abandoned him when he was ten years old.
• Gypsy (Rose Abdoo), Stars Hollow's local mechanic
• Morey Dell (Ted Rooney), Babette's husband, who often plays the piano

• GiGi (Nicolette Collier) Born in the Third season, she is Rory's half-sister and Christopher's daughter.
• Shira Huntzberger (Leann Hunley) Mother to Logan Huntzberger; Wife of Mitchum Huntzberger.
• Anna Nardini (Sherilyn Fenn) (2006 - 2007), Luke's ex-girlfriend and mother to his child who runs a store dedicated to vintage merchandise. She does not tell Luke about April for 12 years, and then it is April who contacts him. Anna mentions that she was there the day that Luke opened his diner. She did not find out about her pregnancy until after their relationship had ended, and then says that she did not tell him about it because of his great intolerance for children, evidenced by his constantly switching tables to get away from families with children when they went out to dinner and his refusal to go to movies before 10:00 PM because he did not want to be around noisy children in the theater. Anna is very protective of April. When Luke finds out about her and confronts Anna about the revelation, Luke decides that he wants to establish a relationship with April, and she starts visiting and hanging out at his diner, though Anna is very hesitant to allow this.
• Mitchum Huntzberger (Gregg Henry) (2005 - 2007), Logan's father, with whom both Rory and Logan have many problems
• April Nardini (Vanessa Marano) (2005 - 2007), Luke's daughter with Anna Nardini, whom he does not find out about until she is 12, when she comes to see him at his diner, takes some hair from his head and uses it in a school experiment where, comparing and using the DNA, she determines Luke to be her biological father.

Guest stars of note

• Norman Mailer, Madeleine Albright, U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-California), former Rep. Doug Ose (R-California), and Paul Anka have appeared as themselves.
• Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, appeared following the cancellation of his show and prior to its resurrection in an episode late in season 2 and was heard speaking on a telephone during an episode from season 3.
• Carole King played music store owner Sophie Bloom and also is the composer of the opening theme for the show.
• Hal Linden played Chad, a man who flirted with Emily at a spa resort in the second season episode There's the Rub.
• Brandon Routh (the new Superman in Superman Returns) made a minor appearance in a 2001 episode, playing a boy at a Bangles concert who attracted the attention of Madeline and Louise, and the indifferce of Paris and Rory; he is credited as "BJ Routh" in the episode's credits.
• Eddie Kim of the Indie Rock band Jelly appeared as himself in season 3.
• Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of noise-rock band Sonic Youth play troubadours in the season 6 finale, along with their daughter Coco Hayley Gordon Moore. Also in this episode were Joe Pernice, Yo La Tengo, Sparks, Sam Phillips, and Mary Lynn Rajskub, who also appeared as an actress in Kirk's (Sean Gunn) short film in a second season episode.
• Indie rock band The Shins appeared as themselves in season 4.

Appearing as different characters

The show has had several guest stars appearing in two separate notable roles, including:

• Alex Borstein played Drella, the inn's harpist, in season one, and in subsequent seasons, Emily's wardrobe advisor, Miss Celine. Borstein also played Sookie in the series' original pilot; her real-life husband, Jackson Douglas, plays Sookie's on-screen husband.
• Marion Ross played Richard's mother, Lorelai "Trix" Gilmore, who died in season 4, as well as her niece Marilyn.
• Sherilyn Fenn played Sasha, the girlfriend of Jess's father, Jimmy (Rob Estes), in the 2003 episode "Here Comes the Son", which was largely set in California and was a backdoor pilot for a Jess-centric series (Windward Circle) that was not picked up. Beginning in 2006, Fenn played Anna Nardini, Luke's ex-girlfriend and mother of his daughter, April (Vanessa Marano).
• Sean Gunn played Mick, a DSL installer in the show's second episode before taking on the regular role of Kirk.
