Socialtext Incorporated is a company based in Palo Alto, California that produces enterprise social software, including a software platform by the same name. It is run by CEO Ross Mayfield[1] and CTO Peter Kaminski.[2] It counts the Omidyar Network,[3] Draper Fisher Jurvetson,[4] and SAP Ventures[5] among its investors. The company's board of directors include Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales,[6] Joi Ito,[7] and Tim Draper.[8] It was founded by Ross Mayfield,[1] Peter Kaminski, Adina Levin,[9] and Edward Vielmetti.[10]
Products
Socialtext is an enterprise wiki and weblog based on Kwiki.[11] It is available as a hosted service, a hardware appliance, or just the source code.[12] The source code version is open source.[13]
Socialtext's products have been favorably reviewed many times in the trade press.[14][15]
On June 9 2006, Socialtext announced a partnership with Dan Bricklin (creator of VisiCalc) which encompasses an exclusive distribution deal for wikiCalc as well as a pledge for co-development.[16][17][18]
Culture
Socialtext was inspired by Wikipedia.[19]
Socialtext was a sponsor of Wikimania 2005 and 2006.[20] It also donated US$2,000 in the Wikimedia Fundraiser 2005 Q4.[citation needed]
Socialtext hosted the first BarCamp from August 19 2005 to August 21 2005.[21]
