Having spent nearly a year in Australia, I am not convinced that the Woolworths Limited discount retailer, The Big W is not an extension of America's 'evil w' otherwise known as Wal*Mart. In actuality, both the Big W and Woolworth [the grocer] utilize the 'smiley face' associated with America's Wal*Mart stores. I'd be curious to learn from others there own observation on this matter.

Suggestions

I am new to Wikipedia so bare with me.

I am a manager at Woolworths (or Safeway as it is in Victoria) and the list of departments can be improved. (Obviously I am not the one to do it!)

Service - checkouts and service desk (colloquially known as the "smoke shop", as this is where cigarettes and their related producs are sold)

I have never heard the service desk referred to as the "smoke shop" although it is possible that this does occur in other regions/states etc...

-It is known by smoke shop in NSW'

Management - store management, systems office, training staff, stocktake staff

This department actually called 'Nontrade' and includes Store Management and Admin Staff.

Dairy - also known as perishables

I'd have this the other way around, and I'd inculde a note that it inculdes the freezer section and is often under the command of the Longlife manager.

I think this should also be moved to the Woolworths Supermarkets article. This is my first ever Wikipedia post, I hope I haven't offened anyone :-) Teiresias84 11:05, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should definitely be merged, but into the Woolworths Supermarkets article rather than the Woolworths Limited article, as it pertains only to its supermarkets, not its other businesses. Not significant in its own right to warrant an article, barely has any external references. Murtoa 14:08, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with it being moved to Woolworths Supermarkets and not Woolworths Limited as points are also awarded when shopping at BWS, however I also feel it does not warrant its own page. (Jayjay04 06:57, 17 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Wasn't aware of the usage at BWS. If that's correct, then I concur Murtoa 12:47, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be an edit war developing here. Earlier today I replaced a completely inappropriate logo (since deleted) with something more representative: File:Woolworths Limited.gif

There have been several subsequent edits between other users alternating between that logo and an earlier upload:File:Woolworths Limited.png

The second image isn't really a logo - it's simply the company name in a different typeface. The first image is featured on the Woolworths website and is the graphic most commonly associated with Woolworths and as such, deserves to be featured in the Wikipedia article.

Any thoughts?
