Adoption

Yes, I can take on another adoptee - I've got two at present but one's away for the summer and the other hasn't edited since I adopted her... Feel free to add the appropriate userbox (see WP:AAU) to your userpage, then let me know what I can do to help. Regards, BencherliteTalk 09:57, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, what do you help with, I know how to edit, link, cite references etc do I really need to waste your time?--GOD 12:40, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With one previous adoptee, CA387, he used to pose me questions and I used to try and answer them. Some adopters have a series of "tasks" that they set their adoptees such as reverting vandalism, or participating in deletion discussions (e.g. articles, categories). With another adoptee (still nominally "under my wing", I started off with a review of his edits to date, but mainly because he seemed to be on the silly side and needed a "talking to" to calm down. Whatever you want, really: if you want to use me as a reference desk for questions about Wikipedia, or to look over edits you make, fine; if you want "tasks", I'll find some. I suggest you find yourself a WikiProject or two in your areas of interest and see whether they have tasks that you can help with. Generally, WikiProjects will tag the talk pages of articles within their scope, making it easy to find who looks after which articles. Not sure how active I'll be over the next few days, but I'll check in when I can. Yours, BencherliteTalk 12:55, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good --GOD 07:49, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, is there a way to change my links to say orange instead of blue so that they stand out more?--GOD 12:49, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You mean the general links to e.g. the main page? I think the choice is limited to blue or a "?" (see "My preferences") but choosing one of the other "skins" may change it. I haven't heard anyone talk about anything other than blue links and red links, though. BencherliteTalk 12:55, 7 July 2007

(UTC)

When can we start? Your choice on whether (a) you want me to set you some tasks or (b) you want to do things, whether as part of a WikiProject or not, and then ask me to review what you've done or ask me questions as they arise. I think (b) is a good way, as you get to do what you want. I don't think that adoption should be "childminding" or "spoonfeeding" as everyone will have different approaches / interests and what works for one person may not work for another. If you don't feel like creating a new article, which is often difficult, then trying improving what's already there. Suggestions would include fixing disambiguation links Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation or joining in the WP:BIOGRAPHY summer drive to assess the quality of unassessed biographical articles. I'm afraid that real life means I'll be on WP very little this week, but do what you can and I'll try and look in briefly every day. Regards, BencherliteTalk 15:53, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I would like to partcipate with WikiProjects, do I just find one which I am interested in and then see what I can do with the articles? --GOD 09:33, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes - some Wikiprojects have a "to do" list, or a current collaboration project, or a list of articles that need to be created / improved... you get the idea. If not, then browse around until you find an article that needs improving or expanding! And don't be afraid to ask for help or suggestions at the WikiProject's talk page - new members for projects are always welcome! BencherliteTalk 07:40, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're right — the article is rather silly. However, it's generally preferred that, if a page is marked for speedy deletion, you don't remove content. When an administrator comes to deal with the page, they can more easily see the context of the tag (in this case, the CSD for nonsense was the justification) rather than having to dig through the page history. Angus Lepper(T, C, D) 09:16, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK I have also done this to Badasser I shall just add a tag or leave them as they are in future. --GOD 09:18, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and I should probably point out that the exception is with {{db-copyvio}}, where you should replace all copyrighted content with the tag. Angus Lepper(T, C, D) 10:20, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks --GOD 10:21, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fluence

Hi. As I've been working for a time on the small community Nahuatl Wikipedia I maybe have forgotten also to place the summary here; there is irrelevant as so few changed per hour are made. Sometimes, I mark minor edits without a sum, such a error from myself but I'll hope be more careful now onwards. Thanks for worrying and happy editing!--Fluence 16:22, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature

Hi, I couldn't help noticing that although your username is FM07GOD, you sign as "GOD", which is a probably a little inappropriate per Wikipedia:Username#Inappropriate_usernames. There was a relevent discussion when another user chose that as his/her username (see User talk:GOD). Therefore, I might suggest changing it back to your full username, or perhaps asking to have your account renamed. Thanks. Bob talk 15:18, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Bob, nice to meet you. I do not see any reason to as many people have user names which are the names of famous people, I do not need to look at Wikipedia:Username#Inappropriate_usernames, it is a complete waste of my time. Next time please take a look at users like, for example David Underdown--David Underdown, you see? --GOD 15:34, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As far as we can tell, however, User:David Underdown's real name is David Underdown. The problem here is not one of "famous people", but it's one of religious concerns. Hence why Bob Castle links to the discussion at User talk:GOD. I hope you will consider changing your signature back to the regular FM07GOD. --Dreaded Walrus t c 15:53, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How do we no that, David Underdown IS a famous person, user:David Underdown SAYS his name is David Underdown so, I am not changing my nickname. Also I only said David Underdown as an example I am sure that there is many more that have not been uncovered. Kind Regards. --GOD 09:30, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Articles for creation

WikiProject Articles for creation Backlog Elimination Drive News!

We are one week in to the drive, and it's already going fantastic. Numerous days of backlogs have been tackled, with hundreds of articles having been reviewed. We do, however, have some news!

First off, a HUGE congratulations to everyone participating so far. I understand some members are inactive due to vacation, but we are still making great progress.

Secondly, make sure that before you go off and review old submissions, that you review all submissions for the present day, and the day before, so that we aren't actually making a bigger backlog, by letting submissions get archived while we're checking stuff from 2006.

Third, remember to update your running total, on the drive page. Honesty is the best policy, so if you lie about the number of articles you've reviewed, we'll all make angry faces while looking at your userpage.

And, last, if you have any questions about the drive, feel free to ask me, or any other members of the project.

Great job, everyone! We're going to get that backlog!
GrooveDog.

AFC News

WikiProject Articles for creation Backlog Elimination Drive News!

We are nine days away from the end of the drive, and it's been fantastic! Many, many, many days of backlog have been tackled, and over 1500 articles reviewed!

To start off, a HUGE THANKS to everyone who helped out with the coordination of the drive, and actually fighting the backlog in the drive itself. Everyone's done a great job helping out, no matter how many articles you've reviewed/

Remember to update your running total, on the drive page. This is the ONLY way that I will be able to give out awards appropriately.

Lastly, I will be giving out awards on August 16th. Anyone who could help me, that would be fantastic. Contact me on my talk page if you'd like to volunteer.

Great job, everyone! This Drive has been fantastic, and I'm sure that some members of the Project have definitely made friends by collaborating on the talk pages. Thanks,
GrooveDog.

Are you still there?

Hi - I notice you've not edited for a long time, and wondered whether you were still logging in without editing. If I don't hear from you in a week or so, I'll assume that your wiki-enthusiasm has run low and I'll remove the "adopted" userbox from your userpage: it seems silly to say that I'm adopting someone who isn't actually doing anything! If this happens, and you come back later and still want to be adopted, do get back in touch.

Incidentally, the advice you were given above about your signature is a good point and I don't think you were right to dismiss it in the way you did. Please look at Wikipedia:Username#Inappropriate usernames because it applies to signatures too: if "GOD" is inappropriate as a username, as the previous discussion concluded, then it's inappropriate as a signature.
